i have a 1996 park ave, the standard model.

can i remove the airbox and attach a cone filter directly to the throttle body? or does it "need" a tube.

any other easy mods would be nice to know about.

i already changed out the coil packs to msd's, which didnt really seem to give it much more noticable power, but the mpg is deffinatly better with the new coils. with gas at the prices it is now, shouldnt take too long to pay for themselves.

i love cruising the highway and smoking all the rice when they want to try and pass.

If you just want more noise, a cone filter, with a tube extending the element as close to the headlights as possible, will accomplish that goal. You will need to retain the intake air temperature sensor (IAT) with this setup, because your intake air will be coming from under the hood and will be hotter than ambient. Now, if your objective is performance, forget it and install a new air cleaner in the factory box, it will flow more cfm than the N/A engine can ingest. If you had an S/C engine, some benefit may be gained from a properly installed system with a heat shield to keep engine heat away from the intake air. Most cone filters are “oil soaked” and if mounted too close to the MAF, the oil will find its way onto the MAF hot wire. When this happens, you will have a problem.
