ABS Issues

Hi,
I have a 99 gmc safari AWD 4.3. The ABS kept coming on when it wasn't wasn't supposed to. It would come on almost every time I was coming to a stop...Really scary! My hubby checked a couple things and ended up just disconnecting it. That is fine, but winter is coming soon and I would like it fixed before the snow. Any ideas?

Yes, I have a couple of ideas. You need to either: get the vehicle on an abs capable scanner to see which abs sensor is dropping out, or connect a dvom meter to each sensor individually and see what you are getting on the millivolt scale. You most likely have one weak abs sensor in the front that is causing the abs to activate at speeds lower than 10mph. The easiest thing would be to take it to a shop and have them check it out, there may even be a code stored for the bad sensor.

I have the same problem. Astro AWD 95. The code say rf sensor, i have replaced the sensor and the code is the same. I live in denmark and it takes at least a week to get a new+400 dollar. How big is the risc that a new is defect

The replacement sensor can be tested for signal output with a multimeter. The probability of a new sensor having failed is very low, but it is still possible.

Since the sensor was replaced and the code is still present, were all ABS codes cleared after the repair?

Yes codes were cleared, but the light came on almost at once. Any idea whay the test should show?

Wheel sensors should produce an AC voltage above 0.65V with the wheel turning at about 5 MPH or 60 RPM.
