A/C Compressor

I have a '97 K1500 4WD 5.7L.

I believe the clutch on my A/C compressor is going as I hear something like a ticking whirr when I turn on the air or defroster.

Looking at the parts, it would seem easier, although maybe more expensive, to just get the whole compressor and clutch together and bolt it on.

Is it worth it to try to rebuild the clutch? Can you even do that?

Having just went through a fuel pump nightmare with my wife's van (Carter's pump from Napa), is this another one of those parts where Delphi is best to get rather than aftermarket?

Depends on what the noise is- it could be the compressor- since you say it only makes noise with a/c on- The compressor may be wearing itself out inside- a good look at the orifice tube will confirm- If you are not familiar with a/c, and don't have the tools- basics, like a vacuum pump etc- then you nay be best to let a professional do it. But there have been many who find the right tools and get it done anyway.

If compressor is knocking- that is bad- if you remove the belt and the pulley and/or clutch growls- then just the clutch and/or pulley can be replaced. - it is up to you- a good analysis of the noise will help.

If the compressor shows signs of oil "on its belly" - then you might as well as get a new compressor- since it has a belly leak issue. This is very common on Hd-6 series compressors.
