What is the best car ?

I want to change my Lancia Delta in 6 or 9 months. And I hesitate between these cars :

- Audi A4 1.6 Pack
- Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 TS
- Peugeot 406 1.8 16s SV
- Peugeot 206 1.6 Roland Garros
- Audi A3 1.6 Ambiente
- BMW 316i Coupé E36

So could you tell me what is the better to you concerning the handling, confort (acoustic mainly) and performances. I don't really care about the living space. The handling is the first argument.
All the cars quoted are between 1997 and 2000 with from 60 000 km to 90 000 km (40 to 55 000 miles) for a same range price.

If you have any other suggestions, do not hesitate ! ;) But as you saw, these engines are not very powerfull (between 90 and 120 hp) because I don't want to have one because of the insurance's prices !

And, personnaly, what is your favorite looking one ?

I forgot to put the Alfa 147 in the post below so the list is now :

- Audi A4 1.6 Pack
- Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 TS
- Peugeot 406 1.8 16s SV
- Peugeot 206 1.6 Roland Garros
- Audi A3 1.6 Ambiente
- BMW 316i Coupé E36
- Alfa Romeo 147 1.6 TS

;)
Ask pics of these cars if you don't know it exactly.

For Americans (where some of these cars are not sold in their country) :

Peugeot 206 Roland Garros, note the panoramic sun roof :

I prefer Audi A4 with aero kits from neuspeed or reiger ... 18" or 19' wheels ... lowering kit .. sport muffler ... heemm .. I think it will look nice ... what do u think?:)

Stefanel1

I think that with the 1.6 102 hp, 19' wheels will be too much :D I have to take a car not too powerfull (euphemism) for my insurance, and the best is the Alfa from this point of view with 120 hp and its fabulous Alfa engine.
Another point : I'm 18 and student and I'm not very rich, so I wo't sped more than 8 500 € (£6 000/US$ 9 000)... and want to spare money to travel, etc. etc. ;)

147 without a boubt- FAR better reliability record than the 156

Stefanel1

I love the design of the 156. Is it really less reliable ? Is it more reliable than a Delta of 1995 ? because I had no problems with it and made almost 20 000 km (since May 2002)... Italian cars are reliable ;)

blazed on haze :\

id buy the bmw.

but this is only my biased opinion... i hardly know anything about european cars.

The problem with the BMW is that it's a RWD and on a wet road, you've to be very carefull, or at least slower than in (mainly) the Peugeot or the Alfa.
And the design is getting old.
As you can see, since I posted this tread I've precised my choice between the Alfa 156 (favourite now), the Audi A4, the A3 and the Alfa 147 ;)

Two votes for "other" : very interesting ...

It's all about the Lexus IS sport design, personally I like it w/ the nav
it's really the best if you look at it in on the grand scale, price gas mileage, looks, engine, 17" wheels. I mean everything. I test drove the car a few dys ago, this car is perfect. I found an offer online that said I can get a free subscription to media week if I test drive the car, I did and I'm waiting for my new mag, here's the link

I'm not a big fan of japanese cars, and in Europe, Lexus has no image, contrarly to the USA where it's almost as good as Mercedes, BMW or Audi.
Another point : the IS 200 makes 155 hp, and I can't take a too "powerfull" car for my insurance : I'm only 19 and the insurances here are far more expensive than in the USA.
Finally, the handling of the IS is not bad but less good than the Puegeot or the Alfa. ;)
Though, it's a nice car.

Cool : you try a car, and you get a subscription to a magazine ! :)

and a last thing about Lexus IS, you can get one for 14 000 € (US$15 000) and less than 40 000 km (30 000 miles) in France... so you can infer the difficulty to sale this car !!

I'm decided for the Alfa 156, much better than the Audi, BMW.
The two Peugeot are not original enough (we're seing it everywhere). The Alfa 147 is too expensive now (appeared in 2001 !).

So when my Lancia will be sold, I'll surely take a 156 1.6 TS of 1999 or 2000, maybe an 1.8 TS. Maybe in May ;)

If I can afford it, I could take the 16' wheels of the Pack Sport on the Alfa 156. Not more, it's not nice when you've not the wheels of the car maker (it's only my opinion) and the performances are not as good.
For a 156 1.6 TS of 1999 I would have to pay about 1 200 €/year (2 300 € with "all risks") and 1 500 € for the 1.8 TS. Price with theft insurance.

I want to go everywhere I can ;) I'll maybe make a training period of two months in Egypt, not sure at all alas !
PS BMW-Hamann : if you have a training period for me for July and August, say it to me :D ;)

nice model and nice wheel too .. there is an Alfa dealer in Jakarta .. but i don't know if they can sell it well coz many years ago (more or less 20-30 years ago) Alfa had troubles with reability in here .. :) :D

Alfa has always had trouble with reliability, but it's ok now mainly on the last models (147, 156, 166).
My mother had a 155 and we had some little electric problems and worse, we sold it at a -too- low price, that's also why she took a Peugeot, reliable and very easy to sell.

Yes, the insurance is expensive :( !

It would be a training period in a textile factory working for big groups as Auchan, Carrefour, etc.

...eh ! I could help you in some things (market survey... cofee :D just kidding for the coffe !), I don't know what job you're doing exactly. ;)

In 1986 my family had a black Peugeot 505 GR ... very nice ride, strong brake but not enough engine power .. ;D

oohh .. I C ... we have Carrefour here too ... but in here the textile industry is sinking ... many big factories closed becoz their price couldn't compete with China product .. :D

I am in the ceramic tiles industry, rubber hose industry, real estate, contractor and timber ... :) ... my fiance is in the coffee and food industry ... :) .. her manufacturer is one of the biggest in here ... ;) :D

The Peugeot 505 was a very good car, not as good as the current Peugeot though. But you had very slow engines (especially athmo diesels !) but also good engines : the 505 GTI was excellent. And there was also a 505 V6 with a good engine ;)

the problem is Peugeot dealers in here doesn't offer 607 ... they only offers 206, 307, 806 ... that's all ... :D .. So I have to choose between bmw 5 series, MB e-class, Audi A6, and Jaguar S-Type ... and I think I will buy new E-class .. :D ...

Stefanel .. this afternoon I just bought a brand new Blue Mica Subaru WRX .. :D .. the dealer will send the car within 2 weeks .. I bought it from jakarta .. so they have to complete the document and send it by trailer to me ... :D ... that's a very rare color in my country ... only 4 available .. hehehhehe .... I hope I will have lots of fun with it .. :p :D ...

An Impreza WRX : you'll have a lot of fun ! A friend's brother has got one in Russia ! Not far from the Rally car !

806 ???! Don't they sell the new 807 ?

I've my Alfa 156 ! It's the 1.6 TS Pack of October 2000, red metallic. I love it. And with only 120hp, it's powerfull, Alfa engines !
I'll try to post more pics later (you've got one already ;) )

Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry. Both are better then the cars you posted

Stefanel1

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D pffffffffff, sorry, but it's so funny :D !
You must know very well cars to say a such stupid thing !
Maybe the new Accord (which appeared this year) could be a good car, but that's all ! I also tried the Accord (a 1999 version), it's so boring and unsexy that I didn't mention it.
I don't know the Camry, there are very few in Europe. But, I read that it was not exceptionnal at all.

Except the reliability (which is quite good on japanese cars), I don't see their qualities.
