Hey, does anyone know about these kits (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380071246673&_trksid=e11002.m204&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%252BIA%26itu%3DIA%25 2BUCI%26otn%3D8&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBUAA:CA:1123) for motorizing a bicycle?

Ads for these 49 cc and 80 cc kits are all over Ebay and elsewhere on the net. Are they much good??

Yeah, I know, its even worse than a scooter. But I love riding bicycles (and mopeds are a bitch to pedal. )
My area has a huge network of on and off-road bicycle trails including hundreds of miles of old railway roadbeds etc. which are now nature/bicycle paths.
I can see more of them with an engine helping me pedal.
For some silly reason, other trail users, the police etc really frown on real motorcycles on the trails, but this motor-bike combo will likely not be noticed (much).

Bicycles don't have the brakes to stop from speeds above about 20mph, it would still be illegal to ride on bicycle trails and you're right, it's even worse than a scooter. Don't bother!

i've got my "huffy" up to 65k's or 40mph and i wouldn't want to stop in a hurry! and it even has disk brakes!

Down here, anything with a 49cc motor or above is considered a motor vehicle and therefore needs a licence, insurance and registration.

Still, i like the idea of a mini cruiser style bike. but then i'd like any motorised two wheels right now! Bring on next year!!!!!

Thank you for the replies, folks.

Bicycles don't have the brakes to stop from speeds above about 20mph,
Well, neither do my dirt bikes. :crying: Going that fast on a bike is not in my plans because it feels almost suicidal.

it would still be illegal to ride on bicycle trails
Well, speeding is illegal, too but we still do it. The idea is to keep a low profile...... go pretty slow, quiet and not ride like a squirrel.

Riding on road in the city is likely to get me in more trouble than off road. I will have to check out local laws with the local cyclists forum.
For the moment it's on the back burner.

If you get caught on the "no motorized vehicles" bicycle trails with one of those, it's no different than if you were riding a CR250, you will get a HUGE ticket and possibly have your "bike" impounded.
