Hi lads
Doing a custom pain job on a Range Rover 2005 .
Just finished painting and got the first clear on .
My Question is, which is the best way to put on the next 5 coats of clear as this is what the customer wants.
which grain of paper should i use between each time we clear, he was saying he wants 5 - 7 coats
any help from a good custom painter would be great,
We are using PPG paint and clearcoat
Thanks Indy

You dont allow clear to dry between coats. Put down all your coats at once, allowing 5 to 10 minutes between coats. This allows the clear to 'flow' well. Since you've already applied one coat, flat the entire vehicle with 1500 grit waterpaper and then put down the remaining coats. Another 3 coats will be fine. Then sand down the vehicle with 1500 paper again and polish. I use presta cutting creme followed by meguiars professional speed glaze.

Actually you allow clear coat 15 minutes between coats for it's flash time. Otherwise you can get imperfections such as fish eye and chemical pop.
