 the "Hold" light came on ad began flashing. In addition, the check engine (http://www.automotiveforums.com/t737211-flashing__quot_hold_quot__light.html#) light came on. It is an '06 Aveo with 30,600 miles. Any guesses? it is not going in to over drive

You have warranty still left, get it to the dealers.

For the "Hold" light-- isn't there a button on the shifter to hold the tranny in 1 gear? Maybe you hit the button by accident?
For the "Check Eng" light-- the only time I've had mine come on was when I let someone else gas up my car. They forgot to screw the gas cap back on and that will cause the light to come on. Other than real engine problems (O2 sensor, etc), that is 1 reason I know that will make the light come on. Put the gas cap back on and the light will go out in a little while.

Chevrolet has had a recall on the gas caps for the Aveo. If the CEL keeps coming on it is because the cap won't vent or stay sealed.
