hey so i pulled the motor out of my hatchie today and found some interesting things, looks like i ran really lean in cylinder 4 and had a bit of a melt down. theres not much left of the spark plug electrode this is to say the electode is gone. chiped the piston and scuffed up the cylinder wall a bit. well i picked up a d15b2 for 50 dollars with 110k on it. inspected the y8 head and it is fine no cracks or damage to the valves or anything. anyway the injecotrs are garbage so im looking to replace them, i dont have the money to go aftermarket right now so most likky i will be going to the J yard for them. so i was wondering what injectors from other cars can i use,i most likely wont be able to find them from a civic as i have seen 1 si in the junkyard around me in my entire life. im running obd-0 injectors any help would be sweet looking to get her back on the track for saturday (last race of the year) thnks paul

Any Eclipse, Talon, Laser non-turbo, Any Neon, OBD-1 Civic injectors work, but get the injector plugs too... you can run ANY injector w/ the resistor box, you don't need to remove it and wire the black/red wires together.

All those DSM injectors I mentioned are 240CC, except Auto cars, they're slightly larger as a general rule... get them from a 5 spd... I actually have 3 sets of 240CC DSM's.. if I had known that you needed them, I'd have sent them to you.

To use DSM injectors, you have to get a set of injector seals from a Honda, and round out the inners just a bit... basically, put them in an intake manifold that isn't attatched to an engine, or that you're going to pull, insert the seal in the injector bung, and round out the inner diameter of the seal until the DSM injector fits very snugly, this will prevent vacuum leaks at the injectors. Of course, you should also replace the O-ring seals at the tops of the injectors where they fit into the fuel rail as well.. this will prevent fuel leaks.

so wait im a bit confused about the obd1 injectors i have a set from the y8 manifold i bought. so you can run them with the resistor box? also you styill have these dsm injectors? im certainly intersted in a set of them. let me know. we can work something out. thanks paul

Yeah, you can run them w/ the resistor box.. it won't affect anything. I used to run OBD-1 injectors all the time w/ my resistor box still installed. In fact, the only reason I ever installed it was in case I had to switch to the injectors that required it for any reason.

The DSM's that I have are 240cc, they're pink tops. They're basically just replacements for Honda Injectors. If you want a set, you can just send me a check/MO for like 30 and I'll send them to you. (Covers shipping and my cost to get them from the yard.)

So your saying there is no difference between High Impedence and Low Impedence Injectors, Christ? But you need the OBD1 injector clips? Strange....because the clips are the same OBD0-OBD1, its when you hit OBD2 that they change to a much easier to remove plug.

iirc, we had to use the injector clips from the 92 Civic that we took the injectors from... maybe we just needed it b/c we didn't have one.. not sure on that... I'm not saying there is NO difference, obviously, there is a difference.. I'm just saying that one is internally regulated (voltage) and one isn't, but either can be run if you have a resistor box..

That said, I never built a 200 HP engine that had OBD-1 Civic injectors and the resistor box... reason - Why the hell would you?

For a street driven car that doesn't hardly ever see track time, it's probably not going to hurt anything... if you don't trust me, check w/ a AFR gauge. I never did... then again, I never had a problem w/ it running wierd that wasn't fixed with new parts. (Coil, ignitor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc... )

I've never had a problem w/ that setup that prompted me to change the injectors back and forth between peak/hold and saturated... like I said, I just kept the resistor in there b/c it wasn't hard to put in, and it made it so I could run OBD-0 injectors if it came down to it, w/o having to rewire anything. Later, I took the clip off another resistor, left about 3mm of wire sticking out each position of the red/black wires, stripped them flush, then soldered them in a loop and covered it w/ a rubber boot that I had from another project. This made a jumper that looked professional, and allowed me to remove the resistor box from the wiring w/o having to rewire anything.

*To solder them in a loop was simple.. there are 4 wires, strip them all down, split each wire in half, and solder it to the 1/2 wire next to it.

You end up with 4 wires soldered together in a squared fashion, to which you jump the yellow/black wire. This essentially makes a large jumper that will allow current flow the same as the resistor box does, except w/o the resistors.

***EDIT TO ABOVE POST***

We didn't use the injector clips from the 92 Civic... we used the resistor and injector harness from an Accord, I can't remember which year. We used the injectors from a 92 Civic, which, I assume, had a tab or something in the wrong spot... and required slight modification.

Ill have to go outside and check, but I'm pretty sure they are the same clips. I ended up using OBD1 clips on the z6 I just got done with just because thats what harness I used as a donor, which if you want to go with the High Impedence Injectors, I would recommend that harness. The fuel injectors wires are mostly on their own, on the Right tower they have their own 4 wire plug, on the left tower they run out of a junction plug with 3 other components that are easy to remove from it. Which hitting a salvage yard and grabbing a junction plug would be the a good method of swtiching to High Impendence Injectors.

well i went with some injectors out of a third gen prelude and they worked fine. got the car to the track on saturday and got eliminated in the first round by a galant VR4 but it was close, i have the video of it but dont know how to post it.

but anyways after i ran the car the next day i devloped another problem. pretty sure it is a transmission or fuel issue. or both. when i rebuilt my tranny not to long ago we didnt have the right selective washer so we used on that was the closes thing we had. so i think now in 3rd 4th and 5th the gears have play on the shaft and this is causing the car to bog down a lot and shake.

also i think the fuel pump is going out as when i adjust my fuel pressure befor i run and come back and check it again its usually not the same as where i set it. so its could be a regulator also i guess. i have a walbro to put it but havent had the time to mess with it lately.

my next question is about a diffrent car. have any of you installed an msd ingntion box on a honda with 4 wires going to the coils, lets say a 1986 crx si or and older prelude? having trouble figuring out how to install my box on my crx. been looking all over and havent found much help. well thats my update. at least i can drive/move the civic again. Paul
