When I start the engine up on my 2002 Expedition XLT. The oil light shows low and even when I just change the oil. After the engine warms up the engine light goes back to normal. Anyone seen this issue before.

Ford had some problems on oil pump tolerences. They don't pickup promptly.
My 1997 F-150 with 5.4L engine was this way the first 3000 miles. I would use a pressure tester and check to be sure your gage is correct. My 1997 would rattle the valves until I went to thicker oil. I think 10W30 is approved check the manual. http://www.autopart.com/tools/toolsmain/tool/T_2001.htm is a picture of a tester.
You can also clean the strainer and install a new oil pump.

The 5.4 and 4.6 use oil too.One of my father's customers had one with a 4.6 and it used oil,a quart down every time he checked it.

it is 4.6 liter i will check, but this only happens when it is cold, if you let it warm up it is fine

You may have a bad oil pressure sending unit. I am assuming the oil light comes on dim while the engine is cool and goes out when engine is warmed up. Could be a little dirt in the sensing unit and not allowing the cool thicker oil to flow in the sending unit as well as it should.

OK. Here is one for you guys (1999 Exped XLT 4.6). My oil light is normally OFF. The pressure gauge shows in the middle (not low not high, normal). Will be driving and unexpectedly the oil LIGHT will come on. The pressure shows normal. I replaced the sending unit (located on the oil filter housing). Seemed to help. But within a short time it happened again. I do not think the oil pump is bad or failing. Maybe its the wire ??? Or could the oil TYPE cause this ? I have a "high mileage" motor over 110,000 miles (high for US vehicles). I recently put two quarts of 20W50 in with the normal 10W30. Its thicker oil, think there is any relationship to the OIL light ?
