What product can I use (instead of resin) for making tyres?

I have made silicon moulds, but would love to have them like the kit items.

Thankyou,thankyou.

What makes you think this is a quickie?

The quick answer is that it's not something most modelers do- due to expense, equipment, lack of obvious options, and the difficulty of casting a tyre shape.

You would probably need a the minimum a pressure pot to reliably fill a tyre mold with RTV and expect decent tread pattern replication. A vac chamber would probably be necessary to avoid air bubbles.

You can try RTV, but I don't know what you would dye it with. I've also heard that Micro Mark makes a black casting rubber for this purpose- but I neither know nor have heard of anyone who has successfully used it.

Not to say it can't be done or shouldn't be tried, but it isn't going to be simple or easy, and likely not cheap either.

Maybe these will help:

(PS I found them with the search string "resin for tires tyres" ;) )

Great! thanks everyone for your help. I did not find those threads, thanks heaps.
I was going to try a sort of rubbery product used for dipping the ends/handles of tools in (tool dip) it comes out glossy but will matte when sanded, will try tomorrow.

by the way, im making 1/12 motorcycle slicks, so not much detail required.
