My wife has a 03 GT sedan with 79,000 miles. I have noticed that when you apply the brakes or turn on the rear defogger the lights dim momentarily and then come back up. Anything I should check or is that normal? Another question I have is that occasionally the car is hard to start( i.e. cranks over quite a few times before starting). Is there something I can check that may be causing this? Does not matter if car is warm or cold. With that amount of miles should I replace the serpentine belt? Belt looks good just original to the car.

Sounds like the battery is at the end of it's life. Have it tested. Best be done soon before the snow starts flying. If it is struggling now it doesn't stand a chance this winter. I have over 130,000 miles on my original belt and it is still in great shape!

I wouldnt take a chance on the belt, just throw a new one on and keep the other in the trunk(cheap insurance).

Yeah its nice to have a belt handy, though the engine mount needs removed to replace it. :banghead:
A lot of GAs hav the light dim issues when braking, usualy a ground or the tail light(s) have moisture in them.
I would check your battery connectoins and test the battery, it should be around 12.5-13vts. With the engine running it should be putting out 14+.
