Heater Problems(Help its getting cold!)

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan.
The heat selector (floor, defrost) does not work, it stays on the front vents and it is cool air, does not get warm or hot. When I press the re-circulate button the light comes on for a second and then goes off, i dont think this is working either. I removed the front panel to make sure the wires were in properly, and they are, and I have coolant in the tank. I checked all fuses and they are ok. I read in the Haynes manuel about the thermosat but I cant figure out where it is, the pics are terrible. Any help would be appreciated.

Which engine?? On the 3.3 and 3.8 just follow the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing,same for the 2.4 and 3.0.

Try this only if your A/C is working:

Climate Control System Calibration
"Turn on the blower. Simultaneously push the top and bottom wiper buttons on the left side of the climate control panel for 5 seconds. All the lights on the panel will light up. Then two lights on the left side will alternately flash for about two minutes and you'll hear the ventilation modes cycle. When just the top light on the left side slowly flashes push that button and you're done. All lights should be out and you should be back to normal. This is the climate control calibration test and it resets the climate control system computer."

The van is a 3.3.
I did not try your suggestion, RIP, as my air conditioning has not worked for 3 yrs. and I never bothered to fix it.(I can handle heat but not cold!)
I take it this is 2 seperate problems, just seems strange how they would both pop up at the exact same time.

If you perform the calibration with the A/C not working you'll have two constantly flashing lights on the climate control panel until the A/C gets fixed. Can't reset them.

It's not that we think you have two problems. Bear and I have given you two paths to follow to fix the single problem you're having. Either path is a possible fix. Bear is thinking no or not enough hot coolant is making it to the heater core because of a bad thermostat and I'm thinking it's an issue with the diverter/blend doors under the dash. Since you can't perform the test, you might as well try the thermostat. T-stats are cheap at around $10.

A question I should have and did not ask, what is the reading on your temperature gauge, is the needle in the normal range (on my '96 it is usually at one needle width below 1/2 when the car is fully warmed up). If the needle is staying low on the gauge it is an indication that the thermostat is opening too soon and consequently the air from the vents will be cool.
