Changed Serpentine Belt w/o supporting Engine...Help!

Hello everyone,

I have a 2000 Alero w/a V6 engine. My dad was trying to help me out and he changed my serpentine belt, but he is not big into reading manuals and did not support the engine before he removed the passenger side mount. The engine fell and he can't get the mount back in.

I have to ship the car across country next week, and not only does it need to be in working order to ship, I need to feel I can safely drive the car once I move 3000 miles away from home, so, I plan on having it towed to a shop Monday morning so they can:
1) move the engine back up and reconnect it to the mount;
2) check the install on the serpentine belt.

The car will be sitting with the engine in the dropped position for the rest of the weekend, and then towed. What I'd like to know is what other parts could have been damaged when the engine dropped? What parts could possibly be damaged during the tow? Is there anything else I should ask the shop to specifically look at since it will be there anyway? Could the other mounts have broken or cracked? Could the engine be damaged?

Maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily, but I'm a bit stressed out with the upcoming move, know nothing about cars outside of what I can read in the manual, and this is not helping! Any help you all can offer would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Paula

Welcome to AF !!

You cant tow it with the mount off or loose or the oil pan will hit and you'll be in deeper waters.
You should be able to get a floor jack under it to lift the engine(use a piece of wood to protect the oil pan).

Here is a link that might help you guys get it back on and not have to deal with the tow at all! :thumbsup:

Thank you very much! All is well...I hope. We managed to get the mount hooked back up to the engine--no towing required. Appreciate the help!
