I'd like to think there isn't a god . You cant blame him when things are bad but then he's supposed to get all the credit when things are good. Forget that. I think religion was originally invented to give power to those higher up in ancient times and make thier people follow them and behave . It makes sense if you think about it.....

I dont believe those that do should be persecuted though , it is thier right.

I used to be like you but now i fully beilve in god and I dont think that anything anyone says can change someones ideas, they have to experence it for themselves. Just try it some time, ask god to be part of your life. you may never think the same again....

I'm an extremely skeptical agnostic. Just on the verge of atheism, I guess you could say.

And Ps, you don't need to ask God to be part of your life to see evidence of divinity. From taranaki's viewpoint that has not been witnessed, and I think it's a very trite argument to suggest the need for acceptance of truth as coming before personal proof of that knowledge.

no where were a probability that was very slim but it happened

wether or not we'll still be alive in a couple of thousand years is another probability of not colliding with super sizes asteroids.

The other thing is i believe in Science science is a power we created we pocess and it helps us further our own development as a race.

We are imperfect and not always rational we can't be explained by algorigthms we are unique in that we pocess this power but the fact we pocess it makes us dangerous too and its not to be worshiped.

Worship is pointless. Meditation is pointfilled. If people spent as much time worshipping as meditating we'd probably figure things out faster.

I'm not talking about meditation in a religious sense i'm talking about meditation in a thought provoking and concentrating sense. Studying something using all our thought processing power

Thats kinda what brought me back....

I was raised in a religious upbrining. My moms family is basically a line of Rabbis(jewish ministers). I would go to synnaouge and be bored and think, WTF has god ever done for me. Then...I donno...I didnt let god into my life or anything, but I started getting more involved, and started WANTING to come to services. I realized that my religion does make sense and that the Bible CAN be explained..(least the Old Testament)

Genesis=Evolution(7 days doesnt have to mean 7 days)
Ezekiel=Maybe he took some magic mushrooms or something

I realized there are only 5 million Jews left...NYC has 10 million plus people....I feel I need to keep these traditions alive...I know you will slag this as self serving BS but its how I feel.

I thought 7 days didnt have to mean 7 days.

Also when it says god created beast before man or something to that effect, it could be like, he created apes etc. and then when man was created(if you choose to belive that), man actually evolved into homo sapiens

My theory is in now way scientifically sound, but thats what Ive always thought.

I know how ya feel man , My dads family is jewish and my moms is baptist . They broke rules just marrying and I'd hate to pick sides and have half my family going to hell for what each other would call ignorance. So I said to hell with it all. Almost all religions say they are the only ones that are right and everyone else is going to hell , arent we all "gods children"?. I'll have no part of it. Besides I've never had anything even remotely miraculous happen to me anyways. I think that religion was invented as a way for people in ancient times to have power over others , and it stuck. God ordained leaders , at least they said so.

The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed.

There are many many people who believe in God/Religion who are very educated and informed.

But, you know what it is great we have the freedom to express our thoughts.

I think people form their opinion about God based on their bad experiences. Many people say they don't believe in God but have they tried and studied and looked at evidence for or against a God? Uhmmm.

To me that is ignorance (being uninformed).

I recommend a book to anyone searching or struggling, as I often do myself, struggle with faith: At least be informed of both views then make your own decision, or is there three views :)

The Case for Faith, by Lee Strobel

Ps. This message is not intended to put down anyone, especially Prelewd.

Just my own views IMHO.

I have lived in various places in the world have seen many cultures, have studied several religions, (not an expert in anyway), have read books on evolution and creationism, and I have come to the conclusion there is a God.

Thank you for your time

i just have one questiopn for anyone who said no. do you believe that life as we know it is just a million coincidences working together to keep life going? in my opinion it had to be planned.

isn't it just a great coincidence that people need oxygen to breathe and plants need co2 to breathe? and isn't it a great coincidence that we breathe out what plants need to survive(CO2), and they breathe out what we need to survive(O2). what a damn coincidence. now isn't it also a great coincidence that bees need flower nectar to survive and that when they feed off of the flower, it's pollen gets stuck to them and the bee is now going around pollinating all the flowers he fees from. within these coincidences lies the fate of three species of flaura/fauna: human, plants and bees if the bees didn't feed that plants wouldn't grow if the plants didn't grow the bees couldn't feed. everything just works together way too well to be coincidence. now this probably won't change your minds but that's just a small sample. think off all of the things that rely on others to survive. do you honestly think we just happened to appear on the only planet in our solar system(to our knowledge) to have all of these coinceidences working to make life happen? just think of all the shit working together right now on your pc to get my message to you guys.

alright that's it i gotta stop. it's thoughts like this that made me have to stop taking psychadelic drugs. I've thought about this so hard, so many times i could honestly go on for days. and i have before. you know the conclusion i always reach??? I just don't know the answer and i don't think you're meant to know

i agree with this...you hit it right on. the mere fact that life exists in such harmony and perfection proves that supernatural forces are at work, a la god. and this is all that god qualifies as, an extraordinary "force" driving the intricate workings of the universe. religion is bullshit...

One major question that I had that changed my mind from Evolution to Creation was my actuall secular education in biology.

Take for instance Venus comprised of 96% carbon dioxide (CO2). If all that we see in space and don't see evolved why not have creatures whose cells atoms and what not formed in order to breath carbon dioxide if it is so abundant in Venus? I mean wouldn't organic combounds end up breathing CO2 and for example have life form on all planets for that matter with cells who adapted to consume what ever gases were present?

Just a thought. Peops are right things are to harmonized here in earth and our universe. Just as a car clearly shows signs of a designer (with all of its complicated workings) so does our body, planet, solar system, galaxy, and universe, with all its complicated make up, point to a Designer.

Accurate to an infinite degree then

since Religion seems to make people believe Science is bull.

IE big bang theory. I remember in a Science lesson (long long ago) the teacher was talking about the Big Bang Theory and some girl said of course God made us all and that is why they are ignorant. They are unopen to any advices or theories.

Although if you completely reject Chrisitianity you also reject Government and its Laws since they are baised on its Moral Codes

proof of evolution: I posted this before, but it is solid proof in my mind. Anyways, a certain given couple tries for years to copulate and are not able to produce offspring. Another given couple uses 3 contraceptives and still manages to get pregnant. Why? Because certain beings that carry certain genes have been naturally selected to have higher or lower chances of survival and reproduction. Look at those who have degenerative diseases, e.g. MS, ALS, Parkinsons. They have much shorter life expectancies and have much lower chances of reproduction. Why? The genes they carry have not been selected to be passed on...

Point being that I do not think evolution can be denied. BUt to each his own, I guess

Not quite sure how that proves evolution? Anyway.

Basically it comes down to a time factor. Evolution requires billions of years. What evidence do we have that supports billions/millions of years for the age of the earth or universe for that matter?

take the example of height increase i used. a couple hundred years ago, the average height for humans was much shorter than it is now. for unkwon reasons (as evolution is random) those people who were taller had higher reproduction and survival rates, and those who were not as tall had lower reproduction rates. through generations, the shorter ones are weeded out as they are less likely to reproduce, giving way to those who carry the stronger tall gene. voila. humans EVOLVED into being taller beings. how else could you possibly explain this? i have many, many more examples if you would like me to go on...

and no, evolution does not take billions of years, evolution can happen in a matter of weeks, even days sometimes in the cases of animals that reproduce and die very quickly

actaully, people were shorter back in the day because they didn't eat as well or had as good medicine as we do today. It would take thousands of years for people to gnetically grow this many inches. Sure there were some people who were naturally inclined to grow tall, but most of the time it was from poor nutrition.

that's not entirely true, as evolution is not a steady process in the sense that it speeds up and slows down dramatically...it always remains as an acting force however. while you may have a point that nutrition does have an affect on growth, it still can't explain other points of evolution...oh, here's a good one. how do you explain that fact that a certain species of moths (can't remember what they're called) living in a heavily wooded area in South America evolved from light brown/tan to black. what happened was they started out as a lighter color to avoid detection from predators by blended in with the ligher colored trees. as a development/logging company moved into the area and started clearing the wooded areas, the trees started taking on heavy amounts of soot and thus became a charcoal/black. now this same species of moths was found to have selected in their genes for the darker colored wings, which enabled them to now blend in with the soot covered trees. natural selection at its finest...

I believe in God very much so. Darwin's theory of evolution has been proven wrong in so many ways, that humans came from monkeys. They say that it took billions of years and millions of years ago things happened when the earth isn't even that old. First of all, the time theory was disproved when scientist took a new rock that was formed from the Mount St. Helens explosion and carbon dated it. It came back as being millions of years old. Also, scientist took a dead rabbit that had been dead a week and carbon dated it. It came back to be as old as 5 billion yrs old. In another instance, when time is said to measured by the different levels of sediment, scientist found a 30 ft. tree standing vertically through at least 4 or 5 different layers. You mean that tree grew for more than 4 million yrs? Not quite. Evolution, as it is debated in today's world, is the changing of one species to another. Evolution that happens in today's world is the changing of one animal inside its species. For example, tadpole to frog, larva to mesquito, or larva to catapilar to butterfly. Hopefully this answers a few questions. If not, you should try to find some readings or videos of creation scientists. They can explain a whole lot more than I can.

The guys that did the carbon date test on the rabbit were flunkys. Also when a tadpole changes in to a frog... that is not evolution:bloated: nor is the catapilar to butterfly WTH did you get this!?!?! Evolution is more like the changing of a species to better it self in its enviroment. Evolution allows you to adjust to your enviroment eazier and to survive. Thats purty much it. NO one every said we came from monkeys. That was an asumption some ppl said, no said it was real or not!!

i am nuetral to the whole evolution thing, but, it got me thinking. im now leaning towrds the theory of creation because you know that whole big boom thingy? if that was the begining of everything, what was before that? there had to be something. it all had to start somehow and i for one now think its pretty scary. if there was nothing before the start, why? what possed it to start in the first place? and does everything really go on forever if we dont even know if things have started yet? just a few questions i raised in my mind after this. and the all important question, is there life after death? i was scared a lot when i was younger about this (to be seriously honest, i actually cried about it because if there isnt a life after death, then what? black? eternal blackness?) id actually rather go to hell than for there to be no life after death. but when you think about that, it doesnt seem rathional for there to be life after death does it? just my two cents.

i like the statement religion is bullshit

you could almost apply math to it

Bullshit = B

so a place of Worship W = Bullshit everyday = B x t
but it is greater on holidays = B x t(1+t)
t(2) = time spent at W by normal person

FB = W x t(2)

So anyone who preaches P = FB^2 because they preach it and believe it
anyone who listens L = FB

FB = Full of bullshit

The end is the beginning is the end. Life and death has to be some kind of cycle. If it does have a beginning or end, then maybe it is what einstein has proven in his lifetime. An object in motion stays in motion. Big bang could be true in that there was so much energy at the actual 'bang' that it set some kind of life in motion for several billion years (earth). Once that energy runs out, the energy that you and I use everyday to stay alive, the world ends. Draw a spiral. Now draw a line through it to divide it in two. Along the path of our lives, we travel along this theoretical spiral from the center outward. When we cross the line in the middle, it signifies life/death. We are reborn into the other side of the spiral two fold as some kind of beings. This explains population increase. Eventually, as we reach the outer rim of the spiral over the span of our lives, our energy just evaporates into nothingness (much like a ripple in a clear pond).

^ See, anyone can make up some bullshit philosophy and call it true..

Maybe nothing really exists.. To exist you have to be self dependent. There is nothing in the world that spawns itself from nowhere/nothing, and therefore, nothing exists. Would there be these theories of creation/evolution if there were no humans to think such a thing up? I don't think most animals think as deeply as we do.. Maybe dolphins? Maybe aliens? Maybe aliens are an evolved us from the future taking a living museum tour?

The theory of evolution does seem more plausible in this sense because there are actually several proofs behind it, unlike creation.

All in all, nobody really knows until they die.. and who knows if they know it after that. Guess you'll just have to wait.

to all of those who don't know, the Pope has already acknowledged that evolution does occur, so i hope there aren't any catholics in here claiming creationism

se-r wolfpac : evolution doesn't always occur for the betterment of the species, it is totally random, and in many cases causes the species to die out

yes, there are flaws in the evlution theory, nobody said that it was bulletproof...when you get down to the deeper philosophical questions in life, they are all theory, as we don't really know aything. but science is a means by which we humans try to standardize and understand our existence, to have some sort of universal language for deconstructing life.

i believe in god, just not in the typical sense. i believe there are forces at work that will never be understood, that allow the universe to work the way it does. i also believe that evolution is a mechanism of the noumenal world that allows for the dominance/extinction of any given species at a ny given time, and allows for all those species in the middle too

btw, humans DID NOT evolve from apes...we share a common ancestor

i agree with some of what thrasher said with the exception of evolution being random. i have never seen or heard of a species evolving for the worse or evolving into extinction. look at parasites. a typical parasite can adapt to a new climate within 3 generations. adapting to a climate is a good example of evolving for the betterment of the species. another reson for evolving would be to rid a species of a limb or apendage that is no longer of use. ever wonder why you even have a lil pinky toe or a tail bone? some scientists say all our toes were at one time the same length and eventually we'll evolve to lose that toe. and that since the monkeys we supposedly evolved from had tails that humans don't use so now we just have a bone.

I think we evolved from monkeys(apes, chimps whatever you wanna call 'em) and that common ancestor you mentioned is often referred to as "The missing link"; somewhere between apes and humans there is a phase of evolution we have yet to discover.

keep in mind this is just my take on things. i could be wrong, and you're right most of this shit is just theories.
