Electric Fan - Engine Overhearting

I have a 97 GEO Metro LSI (1.3 liter 4 cyl.) A/T w/ AC.
Recently serviced the Transmission (i.e. dropped the pan, replaced filter etc..) and put new fluid in. Shortly after this, the battery light came on and the car began overheating. The vehicle is losing zero coolant/water. Dunno if the transmission service is related but mentioned it since it was so close in time to the current problem. Here is what I've done since.

~Replaced Thermostat (no result)
~Noticed that the Electric Fan Motor in front of AC is not working
~Replaced Fan Motor Relay (no result)
~Direct wired the Electric Fan Motor (AC) to battery.. IT Worked!!! and the car does not overheat HOWEVER, now the batter drains quickly and the AC blower is running 50% at full speed. As soon as I disconnect my direct wire.. the AC blows full on again but naturally the Electric Fan does not work

Can anyone please let me know how to approach this problem?????

does the fan work w/ac on??im guessing it does'nt.if so i'd check the fuse box under the hood you may have a blown fuse.not sure of metro wiring but would think there simular to other models.would'nt think trans service has anything to do with problem.

the coolant temp sensor may be bad i don't know if has 2 one for the gauge and the ECM the other for the cooling fan relay

The fan on the passenger side should not run unless the A/C is on. Battery light and overheating sounds as if your belt broke.

The fan does not work w/ the AC on.. unless of course, until I hot wire it.

I'll check the aforementioned fuses and belt.. but which belt... alternator??

I bought a 96 Metro LSI for my daghter recently. The fan on the a/c kicks on and off periodically like it should. Is the coolant fan for the (radiator fan)antifreeze supposed to run constantly or is temp controlled also?

The alternator belt should also run the waterpump. Better check it out.

Radiator fan is temp controlled as well. These cars run pretty cool so you won't hear it often. The best way to test is to start it up and let it idle, the lack of airflow over the radiator should drive the temp up enough to turn the fan on. Watch the temp gauge and if the temp heads for the top half it's probably not working correctly.
