Just bought the 96 Jetta Trek. It is hard to start then sputters when you press the accelerator. Even at higher rpm's it will start to sputter and kick when you press on the accelerator. I've checked coil, distributor, fuel pressure....Any ideas?....THANKS!

I replaced the fuel filter...even got another throttle body....same problem. This is frustrating to say the least! I welcome any other ideas...

The check engine light comes on intermittently. Could it be the MAF sensor? I'm ready to pull out my hair!

Finally figured it out it seems...fuel pump, coil and new wires and it runs good now. Fuel pump in tank was really bad, also terrible smelling gas. Hope this helps someone else!

The engine light was coming on because of the misfiring.

Make sure you change the button in the distributor. Don't waste your money on an aftermarket one... get one from VW.
