1999 C custom climate control issue

My 1999 century custom 3.1 has the dual inside climate temp control, one main(I guess) and a passengerside slider control. every now and then, the control does not respond. For about two weeks this summer, the A/C would only blow hot, even thogh set on cold. Then one day it started responding to the setting. this has happened a few times. What can I expect to have to replace?

Was this on both passenger and drivers sides? Has the problem re-occurred? How is the heat on both sides?

On A/C cooling issues the first thing to check is whether the compressor is engaging. When was the last time the A/C was serviced? Check for a low refrigerant charge.

Thanks for responding
This always occurs on one side or the other at a time. This malfunction has never occurred, to my knowledge, on both sides simultaneously. When the controls are responding, the AC works well. (This car is primarily driven by my wife)

Are you sure both controls are set to the same temp?
You may have hot air on one side and cold on the other if not set right.
