1997 GTP AC problem

Hi guys. I'm hsving a problem with my ac on my 97 GTP. I beleive that it just started Monday. It wasnt as cold as it should be. Today I noticed that it was colder on the passanger side than on the driver side. I checked the temps on all of the vents. The passanger side and center passenger side are blowing at 50-55 degrees the two driver side senter and next to the drivers side door are blowing at 70 degrees. I dont have a dual climate control so I am really stumped. I beleive the three center vents share the came duct so why the difference in just two. Does anyone have any ideas?

Typically based on your symptoms the refrigerant charge is low possibly due to a leak. But check the refrigerant charge. Plus your vent temps of 50-55 degrees on the passenger side is unsatisfactory. With the A/C properly charged and no other issues you should see well below 40 degrees F.

I agree, your refrigerant is low. The theory behind the differing temps on the passenger and driver side is due to the fact that the compressed refrigerant enters on the passenger side of the expansion chamber, and since yours is low it does not effectively cool the far or drivers side, making your drivers side air warmer. I had the same problem on my GP and recharging the AC system is a confirmed fix.

Refrigerant is low- look for leak at compressor shaft seal and/or compressor body o-rings-- both very common-- if you recharge it without fixing the leak- you will soon be hot again....
