Compressor Surge

The other day when driving on the expressway The BOV hose decided to somehow worm it's way under my intercooler piping and touch my EGR pipe, thus melting it. I don't know how long the hole was in there since I really wasn't boosting or going rough (oil leak at the time although fixed it and didn't even know about it). I did notice it when I hit it kinda hard to get around a car turning a block away from my destination. The BOV didn't make a noise and the turbo surged. It was like a flutter, which the 1G BOV can do, but it was all the turbo.
So my question is, what kind of damage could have been done? I was boosting fine last night no problem, so I couldn't tell any difference, but can that shorten the life of the turbo or what? Like I said, it was only a couple blocks at most and I didn't get out of vacuum after that one time then.
Thanks.

Yes, you can shorten the life of the turbo, although... just from a day of driving and not beating on it... i would say you didnt do enough damage to worry about it, but i wouldnt put off getting it fixed

Oh it was fixed as soon as I pulled over. I literally went 3 blocks tops before it was fixed.

It will wear the turbo out pretty quickly if it happened alot. once or twice wont do any damage.

You should have nothing to worry about. I've caused compressor surge to my turbo before by having the greddy S BOV too tight for my boost level a few times. Instead of the clean blow off I got a long flutter. Not good for the turbo but it does sound kind of cool haha. To my understanding the damage compressor surge can do to your turbo is more of an over time sorta deal.

Definatly wont cause any damage in that short of time span. I ran my first 14b without a blow off valve for months, lol. Still pulled fine.

im sure the 40 dollars for a decent used one was just too muchLOL. Nothing like slamming your throttle plate shut, almost instantly stopping the turbine, etc. :screwy:

Yea 40 is way too much. Give $20 for my 1g. And NO, its been installed since I turboed it, but I had a few things hooked up wrong, obviously.

Yea, I'd like to see you turbo a car (having never worked on a turbo car before) without doing something wrong.

You've got issues with recognizing sarcasm, but good to see your defensiveness about things is up to snuff. :headshake
