They will make a lot of noise until all the air is out of it. You can add an ounce of sea foam motor tune which will help work out the tiny air bubbles.

i will give that a try,as i will also suction all fluid out and replace with new, fluid looks dirty, maybe the sea foam and replacing ALL the fluid will help.thank you for your imput

Did you bleed the pump and gearbox after you installed the new pump? You need to put the front end up on jack stands with the tires off the ground and slowly work the steering from lock to lock while watching the fluid level. You can stop moving the wheel when you no longer see bubbles at the top of the fluid.

i found the problem:smile: i have had problems like everyone else with steering, being touchy in turns, little play while driving.friday when the steering pump shaft sheered off,i thought it was just a pump issue.so i put a new unit in.the problem was still there.(YES I BLEED THE SYSTEM)so i went back to napa and got another un it and installed it monday.i had good quiet power steering for 30 or so miles, then all hell would break loose.sounded like a ford:lol: .so yesterday after really inspecting things,i found that the steering box was allowing presure to build so much that, itr stopped the pump from being able to circlate the fluid.put a new steering box in,bleed the system, and all my problems have gone away, including the lose feeling while cornering.steers like a new truck.thnks to all who posted,to try and help

Thanks for posting the fix. I have replaced a bunch of pumps with sheared shafts and never had a problem with them or anything else. Thats some good info for future reference!
