i recently bought a 92 lumina and all was working good when all of a sudden i put it in reverse and it goes about 5 feet then it seems as though it catches on something. i still have power but it feels almost as though the Ebrake is on. i try pushing in the ebrank and releasing and still the same thing. it doesn't seem like a tranny problem because it is in gear and has power. Please help i need it back to get to work and need to address this asap.

Welcome to AF, not much info to work with, check if the wheels turn freely first, does the engine race like it was in neutral?, do you have all 4 forward speeds?

it does not race like it is in neutral. it is in reverse and has alot of power still just stuck... also yes all 4 fwd gears work with very good pickup and power it is an automatic. i have not had a chance to check and see if the wheels spin freely. i work so much and right now it is stuck on my parking slab where i cant rather havent had the time to put it in neutral and try to push it out. i was hoping to get an idea before i tackle this problem. from what i have been hearing from those who i have told they say it might be the tranny but i cant see how as i still have power like it wants to move and its not slipping into neutral in any gear...

It can lock up between speeds when put in reverse, so if the wheels are free the trans is probably bad.

not that peoples ideas are a bad thing but its a good idea that i decided to take the time and actually take a serious look at it. So i decided to work with it and back it up to where it was catching i then put the vehicle into neutral and proceeded to get out and attempt to push with both the vehicle on and off. Would not budge so i put it in park and inspected the tires and such area around the rim and what i came up with was "something" was grinding the actual alloy rim what appeared to be near the calipers so i took the tire off and looked inside and sure enough there was a solid mark all the way around the inside of the rim. The caliper looked unusually large for the vehicle. Also the rotor is considerably loose now i believe i tracked down this aspect of the problem and before i decide to just blow money and figure out what i might need any ideas ??? i rocked the caliper and it seemed pretty tight but the rotor is quite loose on the assembly. ???? any input maybe attempt to loosen the calipers or could it be to large of brake pads those looked pretty big themselves. now that i am certain it is not the tranny i am quite happy and want to get this fixed maybe tonight if i know where to start on this issue. could someone have put the incorrect caliper on and drive it before i got it and now i have this problem ? on the correct calipers i would need ( i wish my hands had not gotten so dirty or i would have taken pictures to post. )

PS sorry this is poorly written i am just really happy that its not as bad as i thought!!!

Just like I always preach, proper diagnosis, as in do the wheels turn freely, of course they did not. Not there to look at this, but look at the other wheel that is ok and compare components and their positions, could be the caliper bracket came loose and allowed the caliper to jam against the wheel.

yes i fixed the problem now i posted another one about my turn flasher i know about right where it is but it would be simple to take a picture and say u need to remove this and that bolt...... to get here. i bumped an old thread with the same issue that talks about the bolten cover. sigh i just got a lumina and i need to get more farmiliar with the vehicle. but if you could take a look and be as specific as possible. i have been told its behind the dash on the right side of the colum however others say they remove a plate and can see the turn flasher. maybe i am blind and can not see it because it was dark and with the flashlite i was missing it. do i need to remove the entire dash >?
