Is a Gundam really possible?

Excuse me if this post seems insane, but i've been watching Gundam Wing straight through for the past day or so and it got me thinking if something like that is really possible?

Would a 50 Foot high robot that you can control internally be that far fetched? I have given this thought and the hardest things I see are Controlling something of that size and a power source to keep it going. I personally think that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and it can happen. Take flight for instance, people have dreampt it for centuries and we can do it now with no effort, anybody who understands the basics can make a plane of their own.

So back to what I was saying, is it possible? Because I really want one :D

Um...sure it is...but all in good time. You must remeber too that in Gundam the way they control the robots. Like VR, only you're not attached to anything. They kind of just read your motions but I stil see it possible. Even now, but they wouldn't match up to the ones Gundam has of course.

well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but some people here like it alot, so settle down and give them some respect.

i think that in this world, almost anything is possible. if they can make spaceships and boats that are 1000 feet long, then why not a measly 50 foot high robot?

yes, but i can't see how that would be usefull. unless you are fighting giant alien robot wariors. turning one soldier into one fifty foot soldier realy doesn't acomplish much that current weapons can't already do. thats a lot of money to move just one guy around. now voltron... with that you have highly mobile units that can intercept enemies and when the shit hits the fan, five of you can get together and make a super robot.

well i love how the Gundams look and all, but i don't really think that it would be in the world's best interest if we were to build these things, not only would they deplete the world's resources, but it would cause the world to suffer greatly, plus i would kind of like the world to make robots like Johnny 5 first before we make Gundams

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I just thought things like gundam robots might be used for war. Go back 300 years and tell people there will be a big vehicle that's nearly indistructable and can shoot giant bullets out from the front ,(I'm refering to a tank, if you hav'nt noticed by now), people would probably laugh at you , the same way people will laugh at you if you tell them there will be giant fighting robots for each country in the next 300 years. Just a thought ;)

Gundam robots in the near future, no.
Appleseed-Aliens type body armor-robotics, yes.

I could see small body shaped robotic armor where the "driver" would be human and he would control the body armor like someone controls a crane or bulldozer, like the way it was done in the movie Aliens.

BTW ANIME RULES! :finger:

It's a possiblity, but the degree of control on the shows is a bit of stretch. In Gundam Wing (one of my favorite shows, btw), The combat controls seem to be two controlsticks and a few other buttons (sure there a lot more) but Heavyarms doing a bunch of flips and the like are a bit far fetched. Also there are numerous times when pilots control the individual fingers of the Gundam which is pretty difficult i'd imagine. So I think a Gundam (or a Gundam from Gundam Wing) is a long way off.

But I think we could build a Leo pretty easily. They're big, they're slow and they wouldn't take much computer know-how to make sure it'd work. All it needs to do is walk and point and shoot.

Aside: Aren't we forgetting the point of Gundam Wing, the adoption of total pacificism and the destruction of all weapons: an end to violence and war?

I know my jaw just dropped the first time I saw Robotech as a kid. Ever since then Ive just been obsessed with piloting stuff, thats why I LOVE to drive. But I have to admit, something like a gundam or valkerie would be pretty far fetched and impractical. But smaller more practical basic mechs might be fairly practical and therefore maybe reality someday soon.
