I have a 1993 chevy pickup with a 350 tbi with a 4l60e, the transmission finally went out at 285,000 miles and i put a rebuilt one in it from a 1995 trans am that had a lt1 350 motor with the 4l60e it had less than 20,000 miles on the rebuild and fluid was bright red so its not burnt the car was wrecked is why they sold it....my question is now that it is in my truck i have first and second...but no drive or over drive at all...the only thing i can think of is maybe the plugs on the side of the transmission are different they are both round but i didnt count the pins inside could this be my problem ?? everything else was identical....

Maybe it is the wrong transmission and call a wrecking yard on this.It could be inside the valve body, the electrical.pull both pans, the old one and the rebuilt and inspect the wiring. The wiring harness in the transmission may have to be changed

yeah i was thinking it maybe something with the connector outside/harness inside the transmission...if so i think i may be able to just swap the harness...i'll wait for another reply before i tear into it but i think we are right...thanks for the help !!

I could be wrong here but I do not believe the 93 was a 4l60e, my info says the rear wheel drive GM vehicles didn't get the "e" version till 94.

DITTO - maxwedge - My info says the same thing. Up to 93 had a 4L60(no "e") which is the exact same as a 700R4. The 4L60e didn't come out until 94. The "e" basically means that now everything is electronic on the tranny, no more hydraulic pressure actuated shifting.

79403ta - Your 93 truck basically doesn't have anything telling the tranny to shift into drive or OD. You may be able to find a tranny controller, but basically your trucks on board computer doesn't have the right stuff to run the tranny.

A 93 and 95 is different transmission on valve body set up.
95 uses a PWM solenoid and a 93 does not.

Not only the wiring and vcm but also the valve body.

Call the bone yard and have them check the interchange book for a 95 to 93.

You may be able to change you old valve body and wiring from the 93 into the 95
But I am not sure a 93 valve body will work on a 95 transmissiuon.
The bone yard Interchange book may tell what is needed or if it will even work.
Also contact a transmission rebuilder and ask them about it.
Good Luck

went outside and studied both transmissions the only difference is one prong on the big round connector that goes into the side of the tranny...the new tranny has 1 more prong than the old one...the old connector has 4 rows of prongs, the first row closest to the tranny case has 1 prong and the new connector has 2 prongs in the first row closest to the case...all the other prongs are the same...

The '93s did come with a 4L60E. My '93 came stock with one, and I am so glad I swapped over to a non-electronic tranny.

i havent got around to mess with it yet i'm going to swap the harness inside that transmission but if that dont work....what did you have to change to make it non electric i have a turbo 350 tranny that will bolt up and work but i dont know what to do with the electronic plug ?? leave it unplugged ?? thanks for any help

The plug on the left side hooks up to the ECM. I am not using my ECM cause I replaced my TBI with a carb and am running a Non-EGR crate engine. But you will need a TH350 converter. You might need to get a speedo adapter that will hook up between the tranny and the speedo allowing you to use your stock speedo. Might even need a tv cable and kickdown, not for sure on that one though.

Good luck man.

Have you checked with the salvage yard that sold you the transmission?
If the 93 and 95 case is the same.
You will need to change the valve body with the harness.
A 350 in a truck geared for OD is not a good idea.
Going to a 350 you are going to lose OD and a lot of gas mileage.

bought it from an individual not a junk yard...it has a 3.08 gear in the rear end..its going into a work truck thats pulls a 16ft tandem trailer around town so it doesnt get gas mileage lol...well i swapped the harness out and nothing changed still no drive or overdrive...but i did notice when i took the pan off and emptied the fluid there was a thin black layer film/fluid covering the bottom of the pan it wasnt any thicker than a piece of paper and it wouldnt come out unless you wiped it out....any chance of a sticking valve or a bad shift solinoid ??? in the valve body or is there a test to help me figure out what is wrong....it pulls great and shifts good in 1st and 2nd and reverse but no drive or od......thanks for any help

I don't thin you can swap a 4l60e transmission with a newer one, the pwm model had major changes in the computer controll system that controll the torque converter lockup which allowed the converter to slip. It has a different converter and electronics. The easy way to check to see if a transmission will work is to match the color of the exterior plug.
