stuck accelerator?

My grandmother recently had a minor accident in her 2002 LS. She claims the accelerator was stuck, but has no way of proving this. I know it *can* happen becaue it has happened to me twice over the course of my life, but both times I was driving a Pontiac.
My question is what can cause this? I have heard a faulty engine mount can do it. Also, are there any problems on record with this year model concerning the accelerator? I used to own this car and never had any problems with it that I can remember, but I know as cars get older they develop problems.
Please note my grandmother does not suffer from the slightest bit of dementia and is being treated like she's crazy over this. I was just wondering what the experts had to say on this matter. Thanks so much.

You can check the NHTSA website for Defects Investigations on this car. I have not read of this happening on the LS. If you don't find anything on the NHTSA site, then you might consider taking the intake air hose off at the throttle body and checking for carbon build up. Maybe there was a chunk of carbon preventing the throttle plate from closing fully. Also, inspect the throttle cable linkage, are there any areas that it could bind up? What about the floor mat? Is it properly installed and clear of the accelerator pedal?
It's not all that uncommon for older people to accidently press firmly on the accelerator and think they're pressing on the brake....
