I have a 1990 DX and it is SLOW.:( So I have been considering doing a swap, and since I’m only 16, and don’t have much to work with, I was thinking of maybe a ZC swap. I know the engine specs and the stock power out-put but I was wondering how fast they actually are. What kind of times can I expect stock? Also, how well does the DOHC ZC respond to mods, such as bolt on’s. And is swapping a ZC worth the effort involved? Tell me what ya think.
Sorry for the long post.

all your answers are YES they are great motors they respond well to mods the only draw back is that they dont have much mods out there IE.... cam gears are off a B16 (JG) CAI well the intake is a diferent distantce from the TB to the frame (only by a hair) little things like that the exhuast ports are OFF they dont line up right so no matter what header u get its gunna have to be ported! Those are minor hang ups i would go DOHC ZC anyday over a B16 just becuase of the cost alone i have a ZC in my 4d that got totalled so i'm pulling it and putting in my NEW 91 STD hatch (4spd) and i'm putting in a Si Tranny :D and i'm also swapping my Teg brakes on my STD hatch also its VERY worth the money i would stay D series if you dont have alot of money and u still want some good HP and MPG

IF you're low on budget then yes ZC is the way to go.:)

I can import performance parts from japan for the EF1 which is the 88-91 Civic with the ZC. The parts are outragouse! $700 for a 4-1 header... $110 for an aftermarket timing blet (Im getting one) $320 for some Jun ZC camgears that actualy fit and are badass. Like I said these parts are taxed but if you use the ZC PM7 Ecu and the I/H/E and cam gears I can get, your lookin @ 165 or so... Will put a B16 to shame  The ZC tends to make alot more torque then the B16 when modified because of the power band and the fact that its NOT VTEC.

I just put a ZC in my DX rex and I love it. Definitly worth it. Now an SI to ZC might not be the way to go but dx to zc is awesome.

ive got me a SOHC ZC and i notice the diffrence from my stock moter in my LX sedan. I couldnt make it over a hill without losing speed, but now i can handle a hill just fine. In some cases if its not to steep i can actually accelerate. Thats a big diffrence from losing 10 mph on average. Anyways yea since NO ONE has info on the stats for a SOHC ZC and it doesnt feel all that much more powerful im assuming its only like a 5 - 15 HP gain over stock. And that was worth it to blow the shit outa my engine.

u could go SOHC VTEC d16z6 or d16y8, newer engines probably have less miles and they are also direct bolt in, more aftermarket support and have basically same specs as the ZC

and cost a grip more too ... ZC's dont have as much support but you dont nessasarilly need to mod the hell outa of em to produce. Plus as much as i like VTEC ... its not really handy in everyday driving. if you want a good economical choice ... the ZC all the way.
atleast thats my opinion ... Oi!
