Rpm Decreases

Hi All,
My 92, 525i rpm drops down to about 1000 rpm while drive, now, this happen when i took my feet off the gas pedal, why is that? if am traveling 65 mph and take my feet off the pedal, the rpm drops rapidly to about 1000 rpm.
