1995 Monte Carlo Possible Transmission Problem

I have a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo and I had a strange thing happen to it. I don't know much about cars so I'll try to explain it the best I can.

As I was going down a street. I take a left hand turn then about a 100 feet later I take a right. That may seem pointless but the right hand turn was a very sharp turn, it even has a 20 mph sign before it. Going through the turn I was going no more than 20 and the rpms were between 1500-2200. Coming out of the turn it usually shifts into a lower gear but this time it was different. I all of a sudden hear a snap and the rpms go up to about 3500-4000 and I had very little power. I immediately got off the road and put it in park. It was making a very awkward noise almost like something was hitting something else. The only way I can describe it is that it sounded like something was slapping against the ground. I thought it was a serpantine belt becuase I knew I was needing new one. There was no fluids on the ground. I had no power in reverse and getting it home it wouldn't shift into any other gear but 1st and have barely any power. I'm pretty sure it was 1st or it could have been 2nd. If it did shift it would the car would have even less power and would eventually shift back down. I had recently taken it in for a tune up and there were things that needed replaced. I was just about to call them to come back in but unfortuneatly it was too late. Please help if you can!

Welcome to AF. From here, based on your description sounds like an internal trans failure, for a proper diagnosis, have it check by a mechanic.
