I've got a 98 S-10 pickup with a bad key lock cylinder. I got the part and it worked great until the truck died 2 seconds after it started. The new key lock cylinder does not have the chip for the Anti-Theft System. I would assume there is a way to bypass it. Anyone know how or has done it?

Go for a relearn on it.
Turn key on and hit start momentarily but do not start then leave key on 10 minutes unbill security light goes out.
Repeat first step 2 more times.
Then turn ign off .
The try to start it.
let us know if that does it.

My problem is that the new ignition lock looks like it has no chip in it.
See the dark rectangular piece right in the middle towards the top indented in the cylinder? My new cylinder is identical except it doesn't have that rectangular thing. I'm assuming that's the chip.

Did you old key have a resister in it?
If so dealer will have to make a key for it
Are you using a dealer ign key and tumbler?

The key does not have a chip in it. I've made spares from Walmart and work fine with the old cylinder. The cylinder has the chip.

Forget the chip then.
Do the relearn and see if it starts and runs.
Let us know how it goes.

Trying the relearn. Not having much luck. Let it go for 20 minutes and the security light was still flashing.

Make sure you do the start bump with key on .
If it does not relearn you will need to get it on a body/Anti-theft capable scanner and check for codes.
Post back code no.

Post back code no.Well I have no idea why it works now, but it does. I gave up with learning because the security light would never go off. I put the old ignition back in and tried to read the resistance as described on a few sites to bypass the passlock anti theft. I installed what I believed to be the correct resister and still no luck with the new ignition. I hooked everything back up and all of a sudden the stupid thing works now. Not a clue what I did to get this far. Only problem now is the security light says on. I guess I can live with that.
