Concerns about replacing the Factory radio

I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix base model sedan... I have a few concerns I am hoping you can assist me with. First, The LCD screen on the factory deck has gone completely blank which isn't that big of a deal for me since I about to purchase a new stereo, but my question is will I have to worry about the display screen on my new deck not working or should it not be an issue. Second, After the radio's LCD went out some of the lights around my A/C controls have started to dim as well, is this a common issue with the gp's, is it easily corrected if common or is it something that I will need to take it into a shop for? I appreciate your assistance.

are you replacing the radio with an aftermarket or with a GM one?

The new one's display should work just fine. And no, I dont think the radio bulbs and HVAC controll bulbs have anything to do with eachother. Is your dimmer slid all the way over? What is your battery voltage with the car running?
