Big Vibration Blower Motor

Ok, so got in this morning. Turned on AC and whole dash started vibrating with loud shuddering noise. Increases when turning up Fan. Blower Motor right. Question one. Could it just be the fan (plastic cage) and not the motor. #2 Should I do the resistor at the same time, since fan does not work on Position 1?

It is very possible that the fan just has some debrix in it, especially if it just started out of the blue. Remove the blower and see. If it does clean it out and your good to go. Just be prepared as little critters like to get into these areas!!!

The best thing to do is remove the passenger side plastic HVAC intake cowling which will expose the blower motor squirrel cage and take a peek in there before removing the blower motor. '97-'03 Grand Prixs were not delivered with a cabin air filter so it is possible there could be debris in there unless the owner(s) installed one at a later time.

If it turns out to be a bad blower motor then it is normally an exercise in futility and a waste of time and effort trying to repair it. Best to replace it. Also, since position 1 is not working replace the blower motor resistor if you have a manual climate control system.

When I bought my GP, there was a vibrating noise from the blower motor. I opened the glove box (push on the side walls when its open to drop it some more, there are tabs holding it in place) and then pushed open a sliding door to get to the cage. Turns out the previous owner's insurance card was pushed back there! Although you might want to be careful reaching in if you think you've got some scrambled critter in there.:wink:
