Sub box?

Here's the deal. I want to upgrade the stereo in my beautiful civic hatch back. I have replaced the speakers in the front doors with bigger speakers mounted by my own fabrication, but now I want some more low end. (I have seen already how all the 4th gen cool people mount their tweeters in the doors. That is so sweet.) Ok, so I want to build some custom boxes in the back for a couple of subs. I have some good ideas but Does anybody know of some good websites I can go to to find out how to build a really good inclosure? Or how bout some pictures of other subs from around the forum to give me some ideas? Any help would be fantastic.

Build the box with the subs pointed backwards at the hatch at an angle. When I was into stereo's this seemed to be the winner. Also use a fiberglass box to cut down on weaght, something I never thought about when Building my original setup. You can use a past on tar version of dynomat to layer the inside of the box so you dont have the pinging sound peeps with fiberglass boxes complain about. If you want to get realy fancy you can put a layer of pre impregnated carbon fiber over the fiberglass like I did. This looks BITCHIN! Only problem I had with this setup was I didnt make the fiberglass thick enough and the subs I had blew the box open in three places. I used 5 layers so you may want to go with like 8-10 to be safe.

You get more DBs with it facing toward the front of the car, but that is also with the seats down, so with them up, yea facing toward the glass is the best beat.

whatever setup you do, just make sure you do a GOOD job on it, and don't cut corners and get lazy. nothing looks worse than a shitty install / box build. if you point your drivers towards the rear hatch, dynamat the hell out of the hatch and the floor of the cargo area as well as the roof so A) the sound will reflect forward towards you, B) your hatch won't rattle like all hell. Dynamat is worth EVERY PENNY if applied correctly. If you are unsure to do it, have a professional do it. I am not trying to promote stereo shops or anything, I just want your dynamat to be used to its full potential.

Dynamat? Shit never had that in my hatch and it never rattled. I always wanted to put it in mine, but never had the money too. Oh yea, I was also hitting 140 db without hearing my hatch rattle. Now what rattled was my roof, my roof shook like crazy. But i do agree, don't cut corners, if you do you just wasted your time and most likely money, because you will just end up having to come right back and re do it all again.

all that stuff really helps. I was thining about trying to mount them flush on the sides of the trunk to maximize space. I like have a trunk go figure. I thought fiber glass would really mold well in those areas only problem is that I have never worked with it before. I am sure I can find out how. I just want some thing simple and slick. Thanks for all your help

If you do decide to go with fiberglass just remember one thing. TAKE YOUR TIME. don't rush it, if you do it will turn out all shitty. As for the ping sound. I never hear that sound. And I hit 169 or something like that. What I suggest to do is get some short strain fiberglass and put that all over the back of the box on the inside. It will make the fiberglass strong as hell and it will not flex like mose do:D
