Wheelspin?

Hey I have a question about wheelspin. What are some ways to reduce it? I put on all new tires today with the best traction I could find.

I was just wondering from your experiences if there was anything else you could do...

I get it worst when I boost too high in low gears, and id lik eto try to reduce the amount. Thanks!

Stiffer rear springs, stiffter front shocks, wider tires, LSD, upgrade tranny to 3.55 gears. Being fwd there is you can do to eliminate all wheel spin. You can upgrade the car some to help not spin as much but learning how to handle the power in lower gears will help out most. Either get some kind of boost controller that changes with each gear or stay off the gas a litte in lower gears to control the spinning.

also letting out some air from the tires. Will kill your mileage though

Everything said above it right. I personally use the air from front tires. If you're driving to a track to do this, make sure you bring a mini pump or whatever for the ride back. Probably the easiest thing to do. Works quite a bit on mine and I've got a CF hood, stock shocks, no A/C and everything stripped down as much as possible.

Also adding weight to the front works, like a heavy front lip. Are you using rims with low profiles? Those tend to spin more from what I've seen.

Wow great answers =)

Ok, lemme fill all of you in, ill tell you as much as I know.

I know, that when my best friend rides with me(weighs about 200) I get wheelspin BAD and much worse power...by myself, it sails like no tomarrow.

I have a boost controller, but not an adaptive one like your talking about, but I like the sound of it, no anyone who makes them? I assume you mean it would have a preset boost limit in each gear?

I JUST bought brand spankin new kuhmo tires witht he best tread, so ive got tires covered, they work a bit better than the ones I had, as far as eliminating wheelspin.

I feel like im leaving something out...

anyways, if I think ofit, ill let you all know!

Thanks so much!

Oh yeah...no im not, ive got stock rims...

and I am planning on getting a front lip here soon, so that should help more than not having one at all, ill try and get the heaviest one I can find I guess lol

No of any websites that sell a good variety of front lips for the eclipse?

Oh and one more thing, anyone know where I could find the lsd for my 97' eclipse rs? And the gears the other guy was talking about? I searched, couldnt find em...

And whats the differnece between the lsd I have and the one I need? I mean like the technical difference..?

steviek

simply put
limited slip differentials take power away from the wheels that are spinning so that they get an opportunity to gain traction simple as that but actually quite complex

boostjunkie333
09-23-2008, 10:37 PM
ok, so how do you go about installing them, simply put?

SilvrEclipse
09-23-2008, 11:46 PM
You install them inside the tranny.

a lot fo 2gnts change to neon gears in their tranny. The neon trannies have a slightly higher gearing which will help keep spin down. Search 3.55 gears on 2GNT and you will find plenty of info. Keep in mind that even doing all of these mods are not going to help out much if you cant drive. You are always going to get some spin in a fwd you just have to control it with the gas peddle. A good driver and some of these mods and you should be launching pretty well off the line.

Im thinking that the apexi boost controller may be able to adjust per gear. Could be wrong but I think I heard that somewhere. You could always use a switch that will cut the boost controller on/off so you can run say 12psi off the line but flip the switch and run 20psi after second gear or so. It would also allow you to run lower boost daily to help keep spin down if you happen to step on the gas.

Niiiice

Well the boost controller I have has a button to push, and has 2 presets, low boost and high boost, around town i keep it on about 15 psi, and I get a little spin if im in the car by myself, and I im capable of 19 so...im guessing with the right mods, I can eventually be able to handle the 19 MAYBE if I can perfect my driving a little more...Like I say, my current driving skills allow me to handle 15 or so without spinning...so I suppose I need to go to the track a little more often, get some more experience...

Ok I think im gonna buy a kaaz lsd in few weeks...(2 paychecks) lol...umm if I buy the lsd, is that all I have to buy in order to have it installed at a shop? or does this mod require that I buy more? Basically, an anyone provide a list of the parts ill need to do the swap, given I was taking it to a professional shop?

Thanks!

It should just drop right in. You should be able to do it yourself if you want to take out the tranny and open in up.

Ok so it just replaces, thats all...good to know... thanks a lot guys, when I get around to buying one, ill let you all know how it works out...

Thanks!

when yuo say let the air out...how much? how much should i have in em i mean...

and just on the front ones?

steviek
09-27-2008, 08:18 PM
yes just the front ones. And it really depends the more air you let out to a point the better traction you get but your economy suffers.

My best advice would be to incrementally decrease the air a couple psi at a time and go from there see what works best. If you can eliminate the spin with only letting out a few psi thats great then you're done. If not well at some point you will have to say ok thats enough.

boostjunkie333
09-28-2008, 01:06 AM
awesome, they had 35, i dropped incremently down to about 25 but the still ride the same, and you cant even tell they are missing air, how far down am i sposed to go, down so that they actually look as if they are missing air?

SilvrEclipse
09-28-2008, 12:28 PM
I usually go down to around 20-25psi. I think you can down as far as 17psi before it starts to slow you down in the top end.

so, would slick radials help a lot or not really? i just bought new tires and it made the wheelspin worse lol...kinda pissed

but i was told slicks would do wonders...im thinnking about slicks on just the front...

SilvrEclipse
09-28-2008, 01:53 PM
Slicks will help a whole bunch at the track. You should have bought a good set of tires and you wouldn't get as much wheel spin

boostjunkie333
09-28-2008, 06:46 PM
damn lol

i cant even get over 4 psi now without spinning...im so pissed lol

i was thinking, i really only need slicks on the front right? this way i keep good wet traction in the back for rainy days..good idea? bad idea?

You want 2 sets of wheels if you're running slicks dude. Good tires or not on the back, slicks in the rain is a big no no.

Honestly, I would just practice driving before you go dumping money into slicks. You can eliminate wheelspin by knowing how to drive it. I dropped a second off my initial pass just by learning to control wheel spin. You gotta pussy-foot. Gotta be dat driver. Be a cowboy, thats why the boys at work call me "Rodeo".

Agreed...for the most part. Throttle control is the solution to not spinning in the rain on slicks, and would help for the original issues. ;)

in the rain on slicks :screwy: i love my DSM to much to even attempt to back down the driveway in the rain with slicks! :runaround:

O.P. i have 235/45/17 F1 tires, and i hook up pretty damn well.... maybe try some F1's or Michelin pilots... Yokohama Advan's are pretty wicked to... its mostly in the tires... shitty tires+Turbo+1st or 2nd gear= (-) traction. :nono:

Not so! I know 600+ RWHP folks that will drive on ET Streets, slicks, etc in the rain. ;)

Slicks are over kill for everyday driving. Turn the boost down some, get a good set of tires, and you will be fine on the street. You dont need that good of traction on the street unless your street racing. Which you shouldn't really be doing.

awesome, thanks guys

well i found a nice set of mickey thompsons that look like theyd be killer on the track, and also not TOO bad on the street when raining...

take a look
http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.php?item=ETStreetRadial

so what do you think of these?

and in your opinion whats the best size to go with on stock wheels? i have 16's...

and i dont street race i know its a big no no b ut i will admit that i am victim to gassing it a little when punks in hondas with fart pipes rev at me

i cant believe it. My performance is GONE with these tires i had put on. I mean i cant even get to 4 psi without spinning and going nowhere, its amazing the difference tire tread makes...

im def. getting better tires soon....arggggg

SilvrEclipse
10-01-2008, 12:44 AM
Thats why you dont buy a cheap set of tire. You can get a good set for around 100/tire which is not bad at all. If you want to drop some big bucks you could get even a better tire that would have awesome grip Im sure but you going to pay out the ass for them. Also remember that its still a fwd car, even if you spend 200/tire your still going to burn the tires in the lower gears.

never used them but im sure they would be an awesome choice. Thats not a tire I would drive on the street, Im sure they would perform well on the street but they cant last long.

I do the same thing...BUt I try and limit it to picking on some of the bigger fish
the Honda's and VW's I normally let go. You know how when you're fishing and you throw the small ones back in hopes to catch the king of the lake.
