Last night I was headed to watch my friends band play. On the way there I stopped at a Sheetz so my friend could get herself some cigarettes and cash.

When I stopped everything worked. When I went back out I turned the stalk and nothing. No dash lights, no headlights, no taillights, no fogs. Even pulling the stalk back wont light up the headlights.

Car runs perfect, all gauges work, turn signals work, brake lights work, hazards work.

Tail fuse is good, headlight fuse is good.

Oh and the fog relay does click when the stalk is turned so it appears power is getting to the relay there. No clicking from the headlight or taillight relays though.

I was only able to do some basic testing as I had no tools to do so last night but I am stumped. I would think it would be one or the other to go out. Not both at the same time.

Any one ever experiance this? Think it could be the headlight stalk itself?

I can do some more testing now but really am going to have a hard time diagnosing as I've never seen something like this before. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I checked every single fuse and fusible link and all are good.

I am not getting power to the relays or the fuses themselves.

If I apply direct power to either the taillight relay or the headlight relay then everything works as it should, other than not being able to shut off the one that is directly powered at the stalk. Oh and I have no high beam indicator either with it this way.

So the stalk works, every light is good. Why am I not getting power to the relays/fuses?

I've never been inside the stalk on a 3/s, but on my old car the position sensor contact thing was corroded and caused a similar problem. Maybe worth a look, kind of strange that it would happen suddenly though.

good luck figuring it out bro.

Grrrr 9 hours wasted. The freakin fusible link was the culprit the entire time.

Lesson learned, sleep before you attempt to work on a car.
