fuse keeps blowing out

Hi all,
I have a 2001 Old Intrigue and I need a little help. The fuse that is connected to the radio, cruise control (my whole steering wheel panel), windows, dome lights, and floor board lights, keeps blowing out. And it is the only fuse that is doing it. I replace it, it works for a bit, then blows. I did research in the internet and I have read that a blown fuse is due to bad ground wiring?
So, how would I go about finding these wires or where are they located in the vehicle? If it is the wiring, does it need to be replaced or just wiggled back in place? Will I be able to replace it myself or it is better to take it to a mechanic? One last question, how much would anyone guess it would cost to fix the wiring?
Sorry for all these questions. But I would be very grateful to anyone who can shed some light on this. :) Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

maybe difficult to find since it is an intermittant problem. May need to wire each component seperately with each having it's own fuse.
Their are conductivity testers and maybe the GM Tech2 scanner could find the fault.

Hi there,
Thank you for those suggestions. :) The parts you suggested are out of my price range especially GM Tech 2 scanner. I can ask around to see if anyone has one or a conductivity tester.
Oh, just to add, I put the correct amps in the fuse box (15 amps). Also, I bought car used so I have no manual (neither service or owners).
I am open to more suggestions. :)

Need more information. How do you know that you are using the right amp fuse?? I can't believe one 15 amp fuse covers all the functions you mentioned. Is the fuse located on the dash (by the passenger door) or is under the hood?

I know because it says right on the fuse box by the passenger seat dash. It is blue and says right on the chart panel. And when the fuse is replace, ALL those functions work, then boom, it blows.

I would turn off all those items that you can turn off, such as cruise control, radio, HVAC, don't operate the windows, and see what happens when you replace the fuse.
My manuel says that Radio, HVAC control assembly, Instrument panel cluste, remote keyless entry module, data link connector, bose amplifier, are covered by that fuse. Do you have the Bose system in the car?
Don't understand why the windows are affected.
See another fuse that called Radio, steering wheel radio controls, cruise control switches.
We need to figure out what fuse you are referring to. Turn off you radio and cruise control and see if the fuse still blows.

Hey there,
I can take a picture of the fuse and where it is located. I am at work at the moment but I can do it a bit later. I do have the Bose system in my car. I thank you for your help on this so far. :) Hopefully the pictures will help.

You can just tell where in the fuse panel the fuse is located. My wife just drove the Intrigue to work but tonight will be able to locate the fuse in question. Suspect it is the radio, cruise control fuse from what you have mentioned so far. Can you operate the windows using controls on your steering wheel? I have a '99 so maybe they added that feature on the '01s. Doesn't make sense that your windows would stop working with that fuse.

wat76, bad grounds will not cause a fuse to blow. A short to ground on a positive wire will. You need to find out what happens when you notice the fuse has blown. What happened before the fuse blew. Did you try to use the cruise control? Did you turn the lights on? Did you use any of the components on that fuse before it blew? All this will help in the diagnosis. If any of those wires go into a door, you might want to see if some of the wires are frayed and are touching ground. But the easiest thing to do is take it to a electrical specialists. If you live in the Los Angeles area, you might want to go to http://www.laautoreferral.com to search for a shop that can fix the car for you.
