1998 CRV Miss Fire

Recently, change my timing belt, walk in the park. Gave it a tune up, oil & filter change, cap & rotter, NGK laser, wire cables. Spark plug number #4 came out dark full of carbon coded. Did my change and still have the miss fire. Am I missing something.

Anyone, anyone, anyone? Help!

Did you have the valves adjusted? With your mileage you should have them done before you get burnt valves. Bad valve adjustment will give you a cyl missfire and CEL. It happened to mine at about that mileage.

I was up late last night doing the research on the valve adjustments, its no joke. I’m hoping its not to late. Where did you go to get your valve adjusted, and how much $$$ for the job. I’m a due it yourself kinda dude, but I feel this is beyond me.

I had it done at the dealers, sorry I don't remember how much it cost as I had some other work done at the same time. I would call some indipendent shops and ask, it shouldn't be to much and to let it go could cost you a bunch more to have a valve job.

You must have checked with your mileage but as you have not end up with any solution, the best will be to visit a mechanic.

Well! I had the codes read out, multiple miss fire, and not only that, I’m running on three cylinders. I have a dead piston, I’m guessing its either intake or exhaust valve that shut off the number four cylinder. This happened right in the middle of a road trip last month to Southern California. I drove about 380 miles up North on three cylinders.
I have two options, taking to the mechanic is not one of them. I've done this type of job twice, but on my Jeeps, they over heated and blew out the head gasket seals. I took both heads off my self, had them magnetized and specs done. Slap them back on, torque'm down to specification, and set timing. I spent less than $100.00 on each.
My CRV wont be passing smog next month and finally we are making our last car payment as well. Go to DMV and get a non operational and pace myself to get the job done. Also, I’m thinking of just swapping out the head for my specific engines. Got to take a look at what is most cost affective.

Make sure you have a service manual for all the little details you will need to deal with.

I dont have the service manual, that why Im putting a shoat out for a ligit write up.

Hey folks,
Just wanted to check & let you know Im making slow process on my cylinder head. Im half way done, took the darn thing off, and its at the machine shop. I did see my exhaust valve crack, so Im hoping that its gonna be a in & out job at the machine shop. Till then Im just going to do waiting game :jerking::eek7::jerking:
So, Im half way through, I have only spent $130.00, my lowest bid from a mechanic was $1,400.00. Ill keep in touch
