The terminal marked "BATT" requires 12v from the Ign sw in "start & run". Do not hook up a constant 12v batty source. "Tach" is only used if you have one, otherwise leave it empty.

yes just leave them as is...these are used to diagnose the distributor...If you wish you can hook up a tach to the tach terminal ..I did this with an older vehicle I once owned...

The red wire is the one that goes to the "batt" terminal on the dist as long as it has voltage in the "start & run" position from the ign sw. This wire powers the HEI. If this wire is not hooked up you get no spark from the dist.

Look on the top of the tab were the wires plug into for the words "BATT" & "TACH" embossed in the plastic. This tab should be facing the drivers side and the "BATT" terminal will be closest to the firewall.

777 is right..you have to have the BATT 12v source with switch on for it to get any spark. it controls the HEI
