how do you have the subs wired to the amp .... you probably have them set to too low of an impedace.

Wiring orientation would make a difference. 4 ohm subs have 4 posts that you can wire either series or parallel. You need to hook them up correctly or something could go wrong.

Also, subs throw off a lot of vibration, one of the terminals could have come loose either outside or inside the box. Check all connections.

Lastly check your power, ground, remote, and RCA cables. If there is a "cut" or something in them they will be working to your cars chassis instead of to the amp not supplying adequate power. Just run a jumper cable from your battery directly to the amp, that checks the power, do the same for the ground directly from the battery.

Also the size of the amp determines the size of the wore needed. If you have a 1200W amp you need a much larger wire. Too small of a wire draws too much power and will put the amp in protect. Hence why you will have it kick on although rarely. Use the same jumper cable type of checking...

Lastly, it may sound dumb but check your amp gor the gain settings and make sure they work, and check your sub output on the head unit work. It could be something simple...
