Alright, so this is my first car. worked on many cars before but ironicaly enough i am still just shy of 15 1/2. What i am wondering is should i just get a RS and turbo it or just get the GST.
my main concern is the price of insurance. i can afford the turbo for the rs. have the capablity to do it (have experienced help in house). is the decrease in price of insurance worth putting a turbo on and rs. how much would the change in insurance be? and i have heard of 420a's putting out just as much power as the 4g's.
thoughts? turbo and rs or just buy the gst? mainly concerned about price of insurance. and wouldn't mind learning a thing or two putting the turbo on.
and no i dont want to put a turbo in a 420a neon... theyr ugly as....poop.

With the money you save on insurance going with the RS, you will put all that into the turbo and end up with the same result as the GST. The GST is going to be able to handle more power out-of-the-box and with simple, not too expensive upgrades, some good HP can be achieved.
Stock 420a = ~140hp
4g63 = ~215hp
(At crank)
Building a nonturbo motor to turbo can be fun, but takes time and money.

Alright well i have to pay for all the insurance. not really sure hor much of a difference it is going to be. parents or grandparents or whatever would buy the turbo kit.
lets say i'd run 5lbs of boost on the 420a until i got upgraded rods, springs, ect. then wouldn't it be capable of putting close to the same amount of power as the 4G63?
i wanna make 250hp. maybe 300 in the long run. very possible with the 420a. but what needs to be done?

With a turbo kit you will run around 200whp on the stock bottom end. You will spend more money turboing an rs and building the motor. I would price everything and still see if it worth saving a little on insurance.

I think if your main goal is to ultimately acheive a turbo platform your best bet would be to buy one out of the box. The difference in insurance on a ten year old car won't be that much but the headache is more and there are still no promises everything will work out.
Take it from both the two guys that just posted they both have turbo'd 420
but I think they both know there processes have been pretty full of hardship... Especially poor jason (despite the fact that the turo getting shredded could have happened to any car)

Buy a factory turbo car. It will save you headaches and money. And it will just be a better platform to build upon.

alright well. most 4g63 eclipses dont specify if its a six or seven bolt. hear alot about 7 bold crankwalk. is it common or just not something to worry about unless your making crazy power?

2% of cars power or not

Most stock cars have no problems. When you start adding some power and a heavier clutch is when most start to have problems. If the 7 bolt has over 100k on it chances are it wont walk. Any 4g63 e/t/l after mid 92s has the 7 bolt motor.

Go for the GST or GSX for sure. You will blow a lot more money trying to make the RS something it was never suppose to be. Crankwalk really isn't as bad of a problem as people make it out to be. One tip though would be to not throw on a heavy aftermarket clutch right away if you don't need it. I've heard stories of people throwing a nice ACT clutch on their completely stock GSX/GST and like a few months later their car has crankwalked. My car is still a 7 bolt and I've decided to stroke/bore it. I did get a new Eagle crank though so I'm hoping I will not have any problems in the future. I'm really not worried about it to be honest.

Ive got about 325hp @19psi on mine, and I have an RS...
Personaly, if I were magical and could change my model I would think id like to go with one thats awd...im having problems with wheelspin now...
But of coarse, im trying to run 19 pounds of boost...in low gears its hell, but you won't really have to worry about that, if you get an aftermarket turbo kit for a non turbo car, youll only run about something like 8 psi...
From my experiences i'd say def. get a gst or gsx, preferably the latter, if you can budgit it out good, and go ahead and get used to having a turbo, gain knowledge. From there, you have had time to save money, learn, and already have a good base to build on =)
You will run into more problems if you buy a n/t bc then you have to select a kit you trust and then make all the mods, not easy if you dont know how to install one...be careful there if you do indeed decide to go with n/t man...
Hope this helped
