Oooo K...I lost to a SOLARA!

I am curious now...TRD badges and body kit. Big exhaust. What does a "TRD" Solara put out?
I see his headlights coming up pretty quick while I'm in the fast lane doing ~75. He starts to go around me in the carpool lane so I punch it to give chase.
In the time it took to go from ~75 to ~110, I stopped him from running away from me...but he was still slowly walking and I didn't have a prayer of catching him in my boat (it's not any good at freeway speeds).
Are those supposed to be quick??

As far as I know, no. Maybe this guy did something crazy to it, because if you beat a 350z, no way in hell was this guy stock.

A Solara is a Camry coupe, so FWD and not fast at all...but there is supposedly some guy around here with an SC'd one that has pulled on the big end on some LS1s.

Did a little poking around. TRD Solara = Supercharged. Stock puts down ~255-265 to the wheels. They are FWD. Tons of them on youtube on the dyno. Plus a manual trans.
My stupid trans winds out 3rd and doesn't shift into OD at WOT...if I had another gear I would have walked him no problem. Instead, I'm watching my tach wind out to the 6500 mark before I finally have to let OFF the gas in order to get into OD so I can continue to accelerate - albeit not quickly enough since I only get my top gear at part throttle. :banghead:
Not to mention, this guy had a head start of, oh, 3 miles. lol. He and an Acura TL were already racing when they passed me, and I gave chase. I was able to close the gap substantially from 75-95, then my lack of gearing let him start to walk away.
So it makes sense.
From a dig, I should have had him. :crying:
I need more bewst. lol. :lol2:

not all solara TRD's are supercharged, stages 1 and 2 are just the body kit and suspension, stage 3 is a 4 psi supercharger. if it was a stage 3 it puts down 240 whp and runs a mid 14 sec. 1/4 mile.

So are you telling me that you tried to catch a Solara, in which he probably wasn't even aware of you trying, and then you gave yourself the big "L" word?

Yep...you fuckin owned yourself in a race the other guy didn't even know you were participating in.

Nice one, Civ. That pretty much sums it up. Guy got 2 kills in one pull, not half bad!
It was probably a Supercharged one with the usual I/E, maybe a smaller pulley and supporting mods (injectors, tune) or something along those lines. Not sure how Toyota does it, just basing it off the way the Eaton M62 works for stages. I assume its the same, but you never know with imports :D Your stupid 3rd gear thing somewhat ruins your chances in a lot of races. Engine/tranny swap time!

Solaras are FWD.
Camry and Solara are two totally different cars. The Camry did not switch to the Solara name or anything. The Solara is just simply a sportier 2-door grocery getter from the camry's roots
Toyota does not put TRD emblems on their cars. The Toyota trucks are the only ones that came with TRD emblems and vinyls from the factory.
The Solara does not come supercharged from the factory. The owner has the option to add a TRD supercharger, just like Scion TC owners have the option for a S/C as well. (TRD superchargers are warrantied if installed by Toyota techs)
My sister has a newer (2004) V6 Solara, those came with the whole package, VVT-I, front strut bar, grounding kit, 17" wheels, better suspension. And stock, it pulls just as hard as my car, and i run 14s.

Yeah, I know well WHAT they are, just didn't know the specs on the TRD-kitted (supercharged) Solaras. It was clearly not N/A.
Catchy title aside, I didn't "own" myself, nor did he "own" me. But quite frankly, I'm not going to sit here and type every little nuance so you all understand every little detail.
I just wanted to see if I could catch up to these guys, as the Solara was on the gas (racing an Acura) as he passed me. I closed the gap some, until I ran out of gear and he walked. In my book, closing distance on a car that had a running head start isn't "getting owned."
I was just testing my machine against another machine. Has nothing to do with whether or not he knew I was "racing" him (though, it IS pretty obvious when you see a car duck behind you, then the headlights jump upward when the driver hits WOT...so unless you're a retard, you know the guy is trying to catch up to you). ;)
Road test on a Gen1 TRD Solara, the stock kit runs 4psi...
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0102scc_supercharged_camry_solara/index.html
This was a 2nd Gen car (3.3L V6, 225hp/240tq stock)...not sure how much more power they make with the S/C than the Gen1.
They seem to have quite a cult following among owners...not sure why, I think they're kinda fugly. I dunno.
Anyhow...new toys going on the Volvo next week. Big thing is a new intercooler. I'll test them out and bring a video camera if I get the chance.

But expect to have people joke and criticize however they please. Some you won't like, others you can take in and accept. You want to make it sound like you got your ass handed to you by a guy who probably didn't know you were there? Expect a smart ass to come along and pull your leg. Don't want a probelm like that to happen, make yourself more clear.

But giving yourself a loss (going by the title of this thread) makes you sound like you lost to me.
Honestly: "OMG I tried to catch this guy that flew by, I stopped his pull but ran out of gear then lost".
I mean, really? You made yourself look like the one who lost. Nobody else here did. Don't get your panties in a bunch if someone comes along and decides to make some humor out of it. And around here, it will happen alot. Roll with the punches and you'll be fine. Snap back at the first person to do it, and you'll find yourself disliked and removed rather quickly. Mkay pumpkin?

TEST AWAY! Everyone here has done the same as you. Measuring the performance of our vehicles is a pasttime for anyone in here. And if he didn't know he was racing you, well, then it doesn't matter than does it? More than likely, and I'm sure if I'm racing someone, I'm gonna pay attention to the guy running neck and neck with me, rather than be bothered by someone who is behind me. I'm sure most people would do the same.
You seem like a level headed person. Take what I said as more of a father to son talk (even though it isn't). Just apply that to your state of mind when you are visiting here. Everything should be OK from here on in...

lol...ok. But I think you're taking this just a little too seriously. ;)
And don't worry, I'm not "the new kid." I do hold a NASA racing license, and I used to race 944 Spec. If I'm going to do any "real" racing, it's not gonna be posted here! Though I haven't had a 944 in 3 years. :(
Who knows, maybe I'll build the 928 up to race again. Not even sure what class I'd run in with that thing.
But if I'm getting midnight dissertations on a writeup about a ~10 second freeway sprint in my daily driver - no matter WHAT I typed or how I worded it - then someone needs to reach down and pull their panties out of their crack. ;)
Sorry about the Civic crack, BTW. Haha. What are you driving now?

To be honest, I'm on nearly every other day. I just don't post every dumb thought that enters my mind. Sometimes I just read. That's why I have the Red Dot of doom so nobody knows when I will STRIKE!

Quite frankly, it doesn't matter to me what type of card you may hold as a driver, you're still posting here on AF. That makes you as equal as everyone else here. Other than the Mods, who are pretty much supreme to all. Mwahhahahaa...
That aside, I'm not driving anything in particular. Got myself an old Chevy done up simple. Posted pics a while back, who knows where I put them. I'll have to track down that page I posted them in.

But thats the thing about the Racing section. Unlike most of the other sections, we have the big colorful signatures and avatars, and personalities to match. We make fun of each other around here, and enjoy every second of it. Its nothing personal, as most of us really dont even know each other. But there are groups of three or four who live near each other and are friends, which makes this experience all the better.
I post pretty much anything that pops into my damn head.

Those Solara's are quite peppy cars. I test drove one for a friend when he was car shopping (5spd and he didn't know how to drive stick at the time), I was quite shocked how quick the car was. I don't think it was supercharged either, just a base model. It looked just like that one in your link, probably was a 99 or 2000 model. I hated the clutch though, toyota's have such a light clutch it feels like a toy car.
