transfer case engagement question

2003 Dodge Dakota 4X4 Used to flash the indicator light and sometimes require "rocking the truck" slightly to get it to stop flashing when it was working fine. Now it's recently started swithing the lights by the indicator immediatly when selecting 4X4 or 4X2, and when placed under a slight load in 4X4 makes a bad metal on metal noise I think is coming from the transfer case? Almost like it's not completely engaged? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KBone...

Howdy, Had a similar noise when I bought my 2002. Turned out to be a bad driveline to the front diff. Friend had the same problem in a 4x4 Sport.
