Warning Light-what does it mean?

Recently my parking brake light has come on along with a red circle with what looks like a wave in the middle of the circle. There are also arrows on both sides of the circle facing the side on which they are on.
Are the two warnings related? And what does the WAVE one mean? Thanks. :)

Your owners manual will explain these warning light indicators. If you do not have the manual it can be downloaded in PDF format from GM.

The wave looking light means low brake fluid. The other means the parking brake is on, or there is a problem with the service brakes.

Thank you for your help. I had checked in the manual, but the "wave" was not in there. I did see the brake one in the book and will have them both checekd out. Again, thank you for your help. Have a great day!

as the front pads wear down the fluid gets lower in the mastercylinder and it has a sensor that makes the light come on to tell you the fluid level is low.put enough in it to only fill it half way or so. because when you replace the pads you have to push the caliper pistons back and the fluid has to back in the mastercylinder.

The manual for my 2001 Venture definitely does NOT show the circle with a wave or three triangles. From browsing around the web I learned that it has to do with the brake fluid.
Well last week I went to an Oil Changers and my fluid was fine. I called the service guy at dealership and told them this and basically was told that he had no idea and to bring it in. Well I've been trying for several years to get the door locks fixed (the electrical system is a mess!) and I hate to go in there because they seem to charge $$$ and can't fix half my problems.
An old post at http://en.allexperts.com/q/Chevrolet-Repair-808/Brake-Fluid-light-2002.htm suggested that it might be a low fluid sensor at the brake master cyclinder. However, taking a look back at the manual, it would seem the first step is to check the brake linings ((http://www.ebookspdf.com/automotives/3774/chevrolet-malibu-2001-owners-manual/)) which I will probably do at one of the dedicated brake places or my local mechanic.

I'm not sure if this is working properly. I couldn't see an option to upload an image so I threw this onto a wiki I'd be working on. If you can't see the image, please go here: https://tbycomputers.pbwiki.com/Car-Warning-Light

you need to upload the image to a photohosting site first.
The web link showed no picture either.
Can you send it to me and I'll post it?

If this doesn't work, I'll e-mail it to you, thanks!
(I'm fiercely independent, I suppose).
I also could not delete the duplicate post before... when I clicked on Edit, nothing happened. Thank goodness Automotive Forums has such a good community.

Ok, the general consensus around the office here is the warning symbol is trying to tell you to watch out for falling Christmas tree ornaments.
Sorry. . .

Oh, oh... I don't think that the dealership has a fix for that. :runaround:
Every time I look at it, I want to go swimming...
I'll let you know what the mechanic says about my break pads.

Just wanted to let you know that the front pads did need replacing. Got 'em fixed and the light is gone. So looks like we were right about that light. I still wonder why it's not in the manual. My next task is to figure out the crazy electrical system re the doors. Sometimes I'm driving and they'll lock and unlock. Once I got locked out of the car just after I finished vacuuming it out -- and my keys were inside. Door locked itself. Now I'm paranoid about taking the keys with me when I step out of the car. :crying:
