B-swap confusion

I'm reading in several places, that on a EG hatch, you could use a mix of D and B-series mounts to mount your engine, and never have to buy a mount kit... Obviously, this would be OK w/ a stock or mildly modified engine.
My confusion comes in from the idea that you can also use the stock D-series mounts from an EG to mount an engine in an EF/ED... they're a direct swap, in most cases.
So... If A = B, and B = C, how is it that A != C?
In other words, if I can use a mix of B and D mounts to get that LS motor into a EG Civic, and I can use the stock D-mounts in my ED Civic, why can't I use the same mix of B and D mounts in my ED to mount that same LS motor?
Anyone?:screwy:

Re: B-swap confusion
What '92-'95 Civic mounts can you use in your car? For reference, in a '92-'95 Civic, you need the driver's side mount and the rear mount bracket from a B-series, & the rest are the stock '92-'95 D-series mounts. the transmission mount will obviously be different, since it's cable vs hydraulic. But looking at Hasport.com, the rear mounts from the kits look different (possibly 2 holes vs 1 hole?). Passenger side looks similar, if not the same though. It's been a long time since I've looked at a 4th gen though.
You can use all the mounts from a EG D-series in a EF/ED. Except the lower torque mount on the front of the engine, and I"m sure if you wanted to put the chassis side of that mount on your EF/ED chassis, you could use that one too.
Sorry, this reply was posted in a doubled thread that didn't update before you responded... I asked for the other two to be deleted.

Apparently, I can use all the mounts from a EG except the one that mounts to the front cross-member.. so I correct myself there. I'd still need to use my stock mount for that, which wouldn't be a problem, I mean, honestly, I've run with it broken on my old Civic for the year or so that I had it, and when we put a fresh one in there, it never made a difference... I'm sure if I stiffen up the other stockers, that one won't even matter... and if it does, I can fab something to make it work.

A stock EG Engine mount(Left side mount) won't fit on my ED, the mount is too wide to fit in the frame bracket. That is why when you go to drop, lets say, a z6 in, you need to replace the mount bracket on the engine to accept the ED mount.
I think on the EG, the main time you need a new mount is if your going from auto-manual, because the tranny lines up differently between the two. And I think you need the bracket for the rear mount, but they accept the B much easier than our ED does.

Ok, well, obviously, you can see where I'd be confused...
I mean, it seems like it would be quite simple to just use the same concept between the EG and the ED, since the mounts all fit with the exception of the front engine mount, and it's trivial as to why that one won't fit.
I'm pretty sure light persuasion would allow that front mount to fit into the bracket on the chassis.. and if not, would it really be that hard to make something work?
I don't know, maybe when I take the car off the road, I'll try a few combo's out based on what ppl have said about the EG's... and see what happens... worst case scenario, it won't work.. but if I don't have to pay another $300+ for mounts, I'd rather not.

I'm also not too sure on the rear mount being able to be used.
I would just stick with the mount kits, just because I'm sure someone has already tried it, and either it didn't work, or wasn't worth the effort. I picked up my mounts for around $150 and I don't have any issues out of them...but I can't comment on vibrations because they don't bother me and I was used to them from my race car before I got these mounts.
The only problem I have with my mounts is I can never remember who makes them, its like Yonaka or something like that.

You're probably right, but I'm thickheaded.. the other thing is whether I want to attempt to couple the B-series CRV transaxle to the ED Wagon's viscous coupler/rear diff setup... cuz I'm planning on doing that too... I love the idea of AWD, and I'm pretty sure I've made up my mind about using a basically stock B-series drivetrain.
