A Leak, milky tan fluid.

Hey guys Iv got another problem. What is the little unit bolted right behind the electric fan, it has a rubber hose and a steel line running to it. I dont know what this is but its leaking a milky tan looking fluid that smells like antifreeze. I titened the bolts but its still leaking. Any ideas?

Ok I think I know whats happened. Looks like someone added sumthin to the hydraulic resevoir for the cooling fan. Now its leaking from the pump. Does any one know how to fix that or how much it cost to replace the hydraulic fan pump.

cheak the engine coolant for tranny fluid loof and see if the trans cooler lines go into radiator housing inside of radiator could be craked

Well u know how theres two resevoirs on each side of the motor, one has a steering wheel the other a fan blade. The one with the fan blade has leaked all its fluid, so I know its connected to that but I never knew what that other resevoir is for? What is it?

The one with the steering wheel is for the power steering.

The LS uses an oil to air fluid cooler for the transmission fluid. The cooler is mounted between the condensor and the radiator, so you don't have to worry about the transmission fluid contaminating the engine coolant.

Hollywood, what year is your LS and which engine does it have? For a 2004 LS V8, the list price for the pump is $404 and the labor to replace it is listed at 2.6 hours. If the wrong fluid was added to the pump (like antifreeze) then you might be able to get by with flushing the system completely and refilling with the correct hydraulic fluid.

Hey Rod thanks for the response. My LS is a 2000. Its the hydraulic motor on the back of the fan. Its leaking out of the seal, Ive got it out and priced one thru the local dealership, $468, I also flushed out the cooler and got all the bad fluid out. I can do the repair myself but looks like Ill be drivin my Jeep for a while. This thing is PARKED!
