98 Malibu operating temp on gauge

Does anyone know where the temp gauge is supposed to be on a 98 Malibu with the 3100 in it? I just bought one and the temp gauge sits a little above the middle mark and sometimes goes up a little higher. I just want to make sure I am not driving the car with temp too high. I know the fans work, not sure on the thermostat yet.

normally 1/2 way or just beyound is normal.as long as fluid is ok & you dont see/hear anything unusual should be all right

I agree - the guage is in the right spot. the guage on my '99 3.1 sits just a fraction below the line, and climbs a wee bit when tooting around in city traffic on a hot day.

Agree, they run a bit hotter than what you might expect. Mine runs a bit above the half way point.
