I was watching this vidoe and it shows how to double your gas mileage and dont worry ill post the link for the video. but first i have a question. The guy put in 2oz of pure acetone in 10gal of gas and that helped double his gas milage but my question with pure acetone going into my engine would it burn to hot in the combustion chamber and hurt the engine at all.

There's a guy over at thegeometroclub who swears by it, he's an old school mechanic and drag racer with a ton of experience and sound ideas. He says you have to experiment with the amount as engines vary and there's a sweet spot that gives the best results.

He claims 2 - 3 mpg from the acetone, so more like 5% than double.

Acetone is a solvent that dissolves all kinds of plastics. I wouln't be adding it to my gas tank. I expect Doctor Bill to weigh in on this one...

Gasoline and Ethanol are known to dissolve lots of plastics too, you're using them daily.

True, but your fuel system is designed to handle gasoline. Ethanol is a whole nother issue...added to fuel behind our backs with very little fanfare. You can't buy gas in NH without 10% ethanol. Has lower BTU value too.

The other problem with acetone it it's vapor point. The stuff evaporated so quickly it would be hard to keep it in the gas...I think it would evaporate and probably play havoc with your carbon canister evap system..(don't really know). Also, isn't it more expensive than gas?

I've tried it and got a little improvement in mileage, 5% to 10%. It supposedly lowers the surface tension of the gasoline and allows better vaporization. I used 2 Oz to 10 Gal. It doesn't seem to help at all if the gasoline has had ethanol added and it doesn't seem to help on winter blend gasolines. Otherwise it hasn't hurt anything.

when i had my metro i heard of this one. the only thing i could remotely think of giving any warinng to acetone burns HOT and those little motors are almose all aluminum and every one should know how sensitive aluminum is easy like scary easy to burn, pit, warp, and crack

i tried it with my 1992 LSi 1.0 5spd i used 4-6 oz for 10 gals. and i picked up about 3 mpgs
