Spoon EK9 Civic Type R 96-98

Ok, so i am trying to get back in the hang of things since i've been up to nothing lately. Picked up two Civic Type R kits (96-98 CTR and a Spoon CTR kit) The incorrect front end of Fujimi's 99-00 Spoon Civic will be turned into something else for another project. This one should be a straight out of box build with no major mods. I will be painting the body to resemble the vogue silver metallic Civic Type R's were offered in. Wheels will be sprayed gunmetal to resemble the almighty grey Regamasters and will be left with no decals since i can't make any LOL. Instead of the Pirellis that all the Fujimi kits bring i will be using some Advan tires i had stashed away, two larger sized aprox. 235 will be up front and the other two (205) will be in the back. Spoon duckbill covered with scale motorsport CF, Spoon mirrors, decals, and spoon steering wheel will be used.
Test fitted a couple of things and tried to get the height dialed first.
Sorry for the bad pics.

Twinblocks and larger drilled rotors test fitted. I originally noticed a large gap between the rotor and the wheel so i was able to sandwich these existing rotors and calipers by just removing the original caliper. Now the fitment is more realistic of the caliper to rim.

I need to find a way to place the wheels on my dremel so that i can sand down the face of the spokes evenly to make it more realistic. The spokes on these molds poke out too far and have an extra groove which the 16 inch SW's don't have in real life.

Nice wheels you've got there...
so i guess you'll be doing carbon fibre bonnet as well?
how about the 'spoon' logo on the windscreen?
nice buildup!

I'm still a bit iffy about the carbon bonnet. And im not sure of how i could do the spoon banner on the front windshield, lol. So for that's out of choice:mad:

hey, good to see you back around here. Your honda builds were always among the best in my eyes. That track integra is so unique and cool. :grinyes:
As for "lathing" the wheels, here's how I do it. take a 2mm fujimi wheel axle, cut it in half, put a poly cap on it, place it in an appropriate sized collet which is 2.5mm int. dia. in your dremel, and have at it.

hello japo, yea it feels good building again. Yea if you notice in one of the pictures you see my dremel and a random bit i found.. I basically did what sileightsix pictured. Placed the wheel on the dremel and had it spin at low speed while i sanded down the face with 800 grit sand paper. I'll have some updates tonight. I sprayed the body today and continued doing little details. Filled the messy mold of the spoon duckbill and the empty back of the Recaro's. Tomorrow i'll be shooting the interior and focusing on getting that done. If all goes well i'll have the car in the dehydrator from tomorrow til sunday so i can shoot the clear. I'm still waiting on my order from scale motorsports for my CF decal :(

You have done an amazing job on the wheels! I had similar feeling towards the fujimi SW looking a little bit too round, but never found it worthwhile nor worth the risk to modify the wheels on a dremel. Looks like I will give this a try on my next model involving these wheels.(I don't know when though)
I think the white wheels look fine. Cars looking girly usually involves stock rims with metallic pink/pearl purple OEM paint (which I don't think is a bad thing) and stuffed animals/tissue boxes on the rear speaker panels (now this is a big nono in terms of safety and visibility). Therefore your car is far from looking "girly" =)

Did you just use sandpaper with those wheels chucked in your Dremel? They came out amazing! They look spot on the SW88s. I don't know why Fujimi dropped the ball on those, their wheels usually look close I'm going to have to give that a try on a set of mine. Holy cow. Perfect modification!
It's good to see you back :) I'm around, enjoying this thread and the other Hondas that have been showing up. I've been really busy and haven't been able to work much on 1:24 cars but there's a nice long project on my bench I hoped to get done this year for AFMOTY but probably won't get done until AFMOTY09. Good to see you back, Joe. This car is gonna be dead hot.

Yup, just sand paper and the dremel. I'm soo happy to see them as they are now compared to my other SW's. I'm really pumped to get this car finished because of the kit itself (a 96-98 CTR). I always wanted to build one. I have a couple more kits i want to build like the 99-00 CTR the spoon kit brings, mugen integra which i might not even use the mugen kit on:shakehead and i'm about to order an EK4 kit, because i wish i would've done my midori one with the sunroof:disappoin I was searching earlier through all the old threads and noticed a few nice Honda's. :smokin: Can't wait to see what you have for us Master Willimo :)

Nice to see you building again Joeham. I have had a case of builder's block and going to sell off many Non-Honda models in the upcoming weeks to trim my collection down a bit. Great work of those SWs, I've to get you the picture of those Regamaters which are 18" scale and look pretty damn good too.
Oh, you should try this and see if you get the look you want. I can't find pictures, but I built the same model a while back and to get the duckbill to sit better, I used the rear window trim piece you glue to the glass so that you can mount the CTR wing and sanded it until it was flush with the duckbill and then sanded it until it sat right. It flares the duckbill up a bit.

Thanks for the tips tri! When i was test fitting it I noticed the duckbill didn't fit too well. I did a slim coat of putty over it to make it slightly thicker like the real one. I have to test fit it again and see if i made it any better and try it with the thin base piece.
I was thinking of picking up a set of those 18 inch fujimi regamasters to put on an integra kit since i can't seem to find the damn Advan RG's anymore. Is it considerable larger than usual? because i remember seeing Jarel use them on a dark blue EK he was doing and they looked kind of huge.

I hoarded up on those Advan RGs (Aoshima Version). The EK wheel wells are kind of small so the 18" wheels will not sit right and actually look larger than they are. I have test fitted them on a DC2 model and they look just right being that the car seems larger as well. Keep up the great work! I actually did the paint for that dark blue EK and the wheel were going to look great once he stripped and painted them flat black

Thanks Jarel for the kit ;)
Lol
Some updates,
Sprayed the interior and such (not finished)
airbrushed the SW's flat black
scratchbuilt a Spoon N1 replica
applied decals (need to slide around the CTR decal on the rear quarters a bit)
I also attached the blank piece used for the CTR wing on the duckbill to give make it sit better and molded it with some putty. I then sprayed it with some good ol' Cobra Colors moon mudd, Unfortunately i got some ghost marks of the putty. Hopefully after another coat and sand i can get rid of them and then apply the SMS CF and clear it with Tamiya TS-13.
I'll have more to come soon, for now I'll just enjoy my 20th birthday with this post.:loser:

Thank's Tri, Oh and Jarel definitely needs to finish that blue EK ;)
Today i cleared the car and did another coat on the duckbill, seems like the silver became a bit foggy looking. You can notice through the decals how the old silver was much more "reflective". It's alright still came out nice and smooth, so it's going to be an easy buff. Also removed the old CTR decals on the sides and replaced them properly. I'll just have to build the next CTR badgeless:crying:

That is what happened to me lately with the FTO. I decided to repaint the entire car and since the decals were underneath the old clearcoat, I needed new decals. I bought a new box of FTO just for a few decals. I will have to build my next FTO using lower model badges.

Progress has been kind of slow. I got the interior finished up, layed CF on the duckbill and tomorrow i'll be shooting 1 more coat of clear on the body and clearing the duckbill after the 3rd time i lay SMS CF decal on it. For some reason i kept getting some weird reaction when i was shooting Tamiya Acrylic clear through my airbrush. So tomorrow i'll shoot it with tamiya spray clear.

I wating for you!!!, I love the ek9 Spoon,
The wheels works is greats!!!! Very realistic,
Bud de center console betwen de seats, the original Type R dondt haven, is a Fujimi mistake.
I have a ek9 and dont have this parts, a pic of my Ek9 97 for example:

Hi!!
Yes, is a Recaros seats from Integra dc2 (fujimi),
in the real car, the seats are exactly the same for Integra and Civic
I find no reason to fujimi use a different mold.
Anyway most have an ugly hole behind, I hate it, I always have to work that part.
Continuous!
I love your SW Spoon, and the brake disc work, is fantastic!!:grinyes:
