Yesterday on the way to work noticed the vehicle hesitating. Thought the engine was just cold. So I drove further (engine would not die at a stop). The more I drove I started to lose engine power, then came water temperature guage pegging out. I was able to make it to a safe parking place and shut the engine off. Under the hood nothing seemed out of place. I went to restart it and it wouldn't. After letting the engine cool it started and then, "poof" (i was sitting in a big cloud of white smoke). Maintenance shop told me head gasket was blown and best to replace engine.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom appreciated!!!

Get yourself a second opinion. Sounds like they want to sell you an engine.
