Time to build another F1 car. This time it will be the Williams FW-11 from the 1986 season and I will do the version of one of my favorite F1 drivers, Nigel Mansell.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/608967FW-11.jpg
Body is already painted in two colors, TS-16 (Yellow) and TS-26 (Pure White) and we not need to be to precise since the transaction between the two colors will be made with a dark blue decal all around.
More progress pics to come.

Hi Gains,

Looking good so far....this is a little freaky though, when u build the Ferrari u build it as Irvines (the same plan I had, and yes im still building it)....now I bought that same kit years and years ago, found it in the attic covered in dust and all sorts and have put it aside for another days work but I will have to look for a new set of decals cause the ones I have, are gone bad I left the box open in the attic and of course are gone to bits as are the ones I used on the car.

Anyway best of luck with it, I cant remeber anything about it when i started to build it but certainly didnt have any complaints...oh by the way I was in the process of building it as Mansells car aswell.

Another cool project from the ever prolific Nuno!

A classic machine from a classic era of F1. Turbos, huge wings, wide track, slick tyres... sigh... :bloated:

I look forward to watching your progress on this kit Nuno, I have the FW-13B(I think:rolleyes: ) to build and it bears the same color scheme.

Your paint is looking good as always :)

Don’t even remind me that Chris. :(
Finished yesterday the placement of the blue decals around the body.

Chose a day that you feel really inspired and with lots of patience since this is a tedious work and will define the good conclusion of this model.
I also have build the FW-13B that have a identical color scheme as Ray maintained and I found the FW-11 much harder since we have to mold this huge decals around the curvy areas where the front suspension enter.

Mansell’s Red Five is starting to look something.

Front section is coming fine. For those how need to do some repair on the blue decals our want to paint some area that was not correctly covert by the decal you can use Tamiya TS-15 (Blue) since it is a perfect color match for the decal.
Next step it’s the front suspension that is a block build separately that will fit in that open space of the monocoque. I’m curious to see if it will fit well

Time to show you one more step on the making of this one.

Finished today the entire front section. The front suspension block doesn’t fit perfectly (as I was expecting) but in any case it looks satisfactory. Time to start working on the Honda Turbo engine.

Very good Nuno!

Is that decal carrier film around the Goodyear logo's on the front wing? If it is, you can avoid that by using gloss paint, then apply the decal, then spray semi-gloss varnish, so the carrier film will not show. and you get the same finish, to represent the CF. Off-course CF-decal is more realistic, but also more costy ;) as we all know.

Nice work so far!

Things are going real fine with this one.
Rear suspension and gearbox are done so my major work is to finish
the V6 Turbo engine.
Some small modification must be done in the rear wing.
More news to come.

I’ve finished today the building of the Honda engine and this model is really near to is conclusion.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/763339WILLIAMS.jpg
Tamiya have done a great job with this one because the engine have a good detail level even in a straight from the box build.
Now is time to complete the tyres and do a small correction on the rear wing since it don’t stay correctly aligned with the car. Conclusion of this model to come.

Conclusion

Another building thread that come to an end. :)
I have concluded the building of this lovely car and I will only have to apply a clear coat on the back wing and engine cover.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/155316WILLIAMS.jpg
No major problem on the building of this model. Just some problem in the back wing that was solved with not much work.
For all those allergic to multi-painting bodies (like me) this is definitively not a hard one since the large blue decals cover the colour change from white to yellow so don’t fear to do for this one ;)
Thank you for all of you that followed and commented this thread.
Outdoor photos to come when the clear coat process is completed.

Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. Just the way it should be done. It's great to see a good F1 'round these parts.

Exactly what modification did you do to the rear wing, by the way?

Excellent job.
I am also allergic to painting multi-colored bodies. Thanks for pointing this out.
I think this is the only F-1 car I will be able to do nicely.

The rear wing is fixed to the car trough a piece of plastic (about 15mm) that enter a hole in the back of the engine. The problem was that when the wing was inserted in that hole by some way it was not correctly aligned.
I solved this problem slightly heating the piece of plastic, insert it in the hole and force it to stay in the correct position until the plastic get to is totally solid condition.

Right thats it my one is staying in the dark recesses of my closet it where it belongs. Even if I can get the decal sheet for it there is no way I could follow you on that one. Its an amazing job Nuno and brings back memories of what true F1 cars should look like.

As always cant wait to see the next one.
