already did a search-nothing. has anyone had the dash make noises like it is gargling? i don't know if it would be the coolant thru the heater core, or the refrigerant for the a/c (which works ok), but it is very distracting, and leads me to think something is about to happen. i had an older cavalier did the same thing, but never figured it out. any advice or suggestions ARE appreciated! (i also have the hard 1-2 shift, if anyone can comment on that):screwy:

When does this gurgling occur and what have you tried to determine the source? Checking the evaporator core housing drain as inafogg suggested is a good suggestion. Also, try turning off the blower motor and see if the noise goes away. There may be something (piece of napkin, paper, mouse) in the squirrel cage of the blower. Does it only make the noise when you are using the A/C, or just the heater, or only if it's recently rained, etc? Does it seem to be engine or vehicle speed related?
As for the hard shift, again what have you checked? Is the transmission fluid in good condition and at the proper level? How recently was the transmission fluid and filter changed? Was the correct fluid used? Does the cruise control work? Does the speedometer bounce around at all? Maybe the gurgling noise you are experiencing is actually due to a damaged speedometer cable.

i recently bought this car, for a fairly good price. trying to eliminate some minor problems. the a/c is NOT producing any water from underneath the passenger side, so i believe the drain hose may be clogged (like fogg said). now, how do i go about finding it and unclogging it? please don't tell me to take the dash out! as far as the shifting goes, it is a little low on fluid, and it smells kind of funky. i put in some (8 oz.) lucas tranny conditioner just for s#^%s and giggles, and because i had it, so i want to see what effect that might have before i do the fluid/filter change thing. i'll let you guys know how it's going!

If the evaporator core housing drain is plugged, you won't yet have to pull the dash to clean it. The drain exits the firewall low on the passenger side. If you have a blunt plastic and flexible length of something (like a long cable tie) you can insert that up into the drain tube. If you have to use a wire or something, bend a loop on the end of it. The goal is you don't want to have something sharp in case you insert the item too far and contact the evaporator or heater cores.
If the tube is plugged, you'll know when you've gone far enough because you'll begin to get water on your hand. If you don't get any water and you're sure you've gone in far enough, then make sure your A/C works and the compressor comes on.

I had a "gurgling" noise in my Silhouette. It would only do it with the air on and high humidity. It turns out the freon charge was just low enough that as the freon was flowing through the evaporator it would make this sound. After an evacuation and complete recharge, the sound was gone.

At first startup, I would get a bubbling, gurgling sound that was produced by the coolant flowing through the heater core. It would quickly stop making much sound after the air trapped would be pushed out. When running the ac, at turning off the car, bubbling, gurgling, popping sounds would come from the evaporator core as the system pressure would equalize across the expansion valve/evaporator orifice. A noisy spedometer/odometer cable is common, but I haven't heard one gurgle...yet.

update: the defrost door actuator was faulty (sticking) due to fluctuations in the vacuum. constant cycling led to premature failure.
