Hey all,

I am new to this hobby, and have a question or 2. I ordered a few 1:43 resisns and need some stuff. I have a knife, but I need sandpaper for paint prep and paint finishing, and brushes (what sizes), I did also order some sticker setter stuff, but what elese do I need?

Thanks
Brad

Welcome to AF, and to the hobby.

Really, you need to build some 1/24 plastic kits before venturing on the the resin ones. It's a much cheaper, easier way to learn. Check out the FAQs, they have a lot of good info for beginners.

I am finishing a 1:24th now, it turned out good, and about 12 or so years ago I built resins, I have done 5 or 6 probally, just want something to do. The resisn I got were pretty cheap under $50 shipped. I have most of my old stuff still, just not the sand paper or brushes.

Thanks
Brad

If you're planning to use brushes for painting parts like the body, all I have to say is go the route of the spray can. Brushes will give an uneven finish and clog small details, especially in 1/43 scale. Check Tamiya's line of TS sprays.

Oh, and of course welcome!

I was going to use brushes for vents and window trim etc.

One thing you will want to do with resin is to clean it to get the mold release off of it. Soft Scrub works great as well as Wesley's Bleech White.

Tamiya's paints are great and lay down nice and smooth. Another one that is pretty good if you don't have access to Tamiya is Krylon Fusion. It is sold for plastics but I always put it on primer regardless and it sprays smooth and has a nice finish to it.

You might also want to have some kind of filler since resin does have a tendency to have air bubbles. I use the Bondo that comes in a tube personally. Readily available and dries quick.
